What do all the NSA leaks tell us about the state of national security in the US? What is the real mission of the NSA and other intelligence agencies? And, is the national security state keeping us safe?

CrossTalking with Suzanne Nossel and Eugene Puryear.

1. Some around here don't regard RT as a reliable source.

2. Cleita..Thanks for bringing this up...what's interesting is that DU has Posters

who post exactly News from Democracy Now and RT..

I think the "Wiser Heads" of "Somewhere" are working for us Progressive Dems.

I don't find anything on RT that I don't find getting "Kicks" here on DU..

I really like watching Commercial FREE!

Am not Embarrassed to Love RT America over MSM in the US...

What do you think? (BTW: I grew up during the "Cold War" and remember those days very well. I've learned alot since I was the "Duck an Cover Kid."

I've heard it being put down here, like it's as bad as Fox News or something, but I'm sure it's no worse than our MSM and probably less biased when it comes to USA news. That's why I was asking what you think of them.

and of Abby Martin's "Breaking the Set" on RT America.

I don't watch MSM/AMERICA anymore. I left that when I got my Roku Box and could get international news.

It made me understand that there was good reporting going on out there for the Dem Left that I could access and feel good about watching.....Commercial/Distracting FREE.

I'm sure the "PTB" are working to cut off access. Just like I couldn't post the "You Tube" of Lavelle's "Crossfire" because USA had cut off access to readily available "You Tubes" to post in the "Progressive Media Resources Group" (that I hope you will visit here on DU as a GROUP) and so some of us are trying to stay here in Framework of DU to be MORE PROGRESSIVE outside of "GD" and other Mainstream DU Sites.

BUT...DU... "LBN" and MAIN FORUMS" are still a Treasure due to the Posters who keep posting some "Progressive Dem News" which actually "Mirrors RT and other Sites."

I don't know if what I said is helpful...but just answering your question as best that I can.

but so do many others...democracy now, glen greenwald; not to say they don't have valid information, but it does have a bias. I've been watching aljezera and it too is an interesting station. Most of their people are from cnn and I don't know who the management is either. Truthfully, I don't watch much tv news anymore. I have to pace myself and du is my first go to source. When * co stole the country, I was glued to the set day and night; but I've been breathing easier in the last couple of years so I'm not so compelled.

Indeed, many consider RT as unreliable (but somehow CNN and Huffington Post are beyond reproach).

We lobbied for this group specifically to promote alternative and less well-sources and to do so in a place free from criticism for the source.

It would be fine for a member to express their skepticism, as long as it's offered in a constructive manner.

RT is obviously a foreign source, they were founded to counter of view of the West that Russia is communist, poor, snowy, and backward.

I think, like Al Jazeera, RT offers a refreshingly different point of view on US and world affairs.

Not that this group is only for foreign sources, we also want to promote unorthodox or emerging ways of sharing information, so it's pretty wide open that way.

I think that independent broadcast is something we'll see more of as we lose more internet freedom, for example.

8. It was a way of Broadening the Views...and getting away from the Commercialization

of our MSM.

I believe there is a Globalized Outcry for REAL NEWS..that is beyond what "used to be".."Trusted Sources."

Anyway.....that's where I am.....and I hope you will visit our new GROUP: "Progressive Media Resources." It's hardly radical...it's just expanding our Media Views for those seeking to see "what else it out there."

Many DU'ers already have their sources of news...but NEWBIES..might be seeking "Other Sources" and I'm a believer (if one has some time...which more and more these days don't) that those who SEEK need some help. That's what I think we were trying to do on PMRG were hoping to put out here on DU...for the new ones coming in SEEKING...and the old ones who were Moving Away from MSM in the USA because it's so filtered and filled with Commercial Fluff....like "Huff Post" and much of even our NEW MEDIA which was designed to get us Dems over there to read.

It's sort of sifting...if that makes any sense. Or, Moving forward to New Frontiers while not Trashing totally what came before.

If that makes any sense.
