Turning on the kids to a new "classic."

It's an odd mix...I think my two favorite movies are Apocalypse Now (any version, Redux and "A Filmmaker's Apocalypse" are epic), and, are you ready?"Triplets of Belleville." Yup, a French animated film from 2003. It is so visually stunning, and there is no dialogue in the entire film, yet the images carry the story. It is not really a "kids" film, although my granddaughter, and now her young cousins, are totally enthralled with this movie. It is dark and weird. There is nudity (the movie opens with a spoof on 1920's vaudeville dancer Josephine Baker doing a topless routine wearing nothing but a skirt made of bananas, and the men in the audience turn into out-of-control monkeys), there is gun play, there are many disturbing images of Tour D' France bicycle racers gasping in agony. They even blow up a pond full of frogs. But it is absolutely amazing, and despite the fact that there is no dialogue (except in French, or background), the tykes love it. I've had to stop them from putting in on for the third time in one day.

Amazing movie. Highly recommended. At least the kids aren't watching Apocalypse Now three times a day.
