I enjoyed it, and after it was over, we spent time trying to figure out which character was which historical Hollywood figure.

I assume that there was supposed to be some kind of message in the conversations that Clooney's character has with the "Communists", but it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. It sounded like 1950s buzzwords.

I would rank this as a middle-of-the-road Coen Brothers film.

We felt failed to deliver on the setups. A fair number of snickers and small laughs, but lacked what could have been a big payoff.

I laughed my ass off.

I think you have to a) Be of a certain age and b) Have an interest in "Old Hollywood" and old movies of the post-WW2 through the advent of television age in order to enjoy the film fully.

I thought Clooney was superb, and Scarlett Johansson as the Esther Williams (and Loretta Young, given the adoption element raised) character was hilarious. That VOICE!

And I was laughing so hard at that dance number with the sailors in the bar that I had a hard time not becoming a public disturbance! NO DAMES!!!

When this hits the premium channels I will watch it again--maybe a few times. It was very rich in "inside" jokes, the sets were brilliant, and the wardrobe top notch, too.
