I just saw Nebraska. Wow. So many themes in that movie.

Anyone else seen it? I'd like to know what you thought.

My husband said, when it was over, that he thought it was a bad choice....but then we spent
a good bit of time discussing the themes.....when we see his movie choices, there isn't anything
to be said or thought about, really. I LOVED it.

2. I loved it for a lot of reasons

I have aging parents, so that theme resonates with me.

June Squib is a riot.

The mythical town of "Hawthorne" and it's inhabitants perfectly capture the essence of small town northern Nebraska.

3. Squibb's character was interesting.

At first she was funny. Then it got to the point where I just wanted to smack her, really bad.
The graveyard scene was one of the craziest scenes I've ever seen at the end of it.
By the end of the movie I didn't want to hit her anymore.

My parents are aging also, and depressed, too.

One of the themes that struck me is how hideous it is to live in a small, small town.
The son's girlfriend who had just moved out announced that theme when she commented
something like get married, date.........do SOMETHING. Then the fat cousins and a million
other little details, all painted stagnation, very powerfully.

4. I just turned it off

Got to just bar scene with the letter. Honestly I didn't like it much. Not sure if I'll watch the last 20 minutes are so.

5. I ended up watching the last 20 minutes tonight

It was a weird movie, but the ending was worth it. Dern was on Pierce Morgan last night and I caught the tail end of the interview. He said something about being given a gold coin by Jack Nicholson for good luck for the Academy Awards, then he took it out and showed it to him.

It's a tribute to Payne and Dern's teamwork that Woody's journey touches us so deeply.

Unforgettable at the end when the lottery lady asks "does he have Alzheimers"? And the son says "No, he just believes what people tell him".
Reminded me of that whole generation, how trusting they are, it's loss made me cry.

8. Just saw it. Meh. It wasn't bad, but I was expecting more than a lot of

the obvious. Maybe I'm just too old for any of it to seem new.

I am dealing with aging parents; one parent likely won't survive this year, so I think
that increased the impact of the movie for me.
