Traditional Celtic Music Trio Alt to Perform at Mountain City Traditional Arts

The Alt, featuring Grammy-nominated guitarist John Doyle and internationally renowned musicians Nuala Kennedy and Eamon O’Leary, will perform traditional Celtic music at Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public (donations of $15 are appreciated).
Doyle, born into a family of musicians in Dublin, began performing professionally at age 16 in the group Chanting House. He gained an international reputation when he formed the band Solas and received his first Grammy nomination. After leaving Solas, he was featured on Tim O’Brien’s 2006 Grammy Award-winning album. He has traveled in many duos and trios with legendary artists such as Chicago fiddler Liz Carroll, with whom he received another 2010 Grammy nomination. Recently, he has been recording his own solo music.
Kennedy studied classical piano in Dublin, began performing traditional Scottish and Irish music in Edinburgh and then released two albums with other traditional musicians before moving to the Scottish Highlands in 2007 to further study Gaelic music. There she released her first solo album “New Shoes.” She has since traveled and performed with a variety of artists and earned a master’s degree in music performance and composition from Newcastle University. Her most recent release was “Noble Stranger” in 2012.
O’Leary grew up in Dublin and in the 1990s moved to New York City, where he started playing music with other Irish musicians. He has been involved in teaching traditional music across the country, as well as recording and performing his own work. He released his first album in 2004 with fiddler Patrick Ourceau, and his latest album, “Old Clump,” was released in 2012....

As nice an experience as it was, I regret not going to Floyd instead.
We really, really enjoy your side of the nation. Have done three long road trips through there, and always swore we wanted to move.
The grass is always greener, I suppose... 
Flew back to Dulles, rented a car, and spent the next 14 days on the road.
Drove down Skyline Drive to the BRP, and took the BRP down as far as Linville Falls.
From there we cut across the Carolina's to Savannah, and then back up the coast to Jamestown, then on to Dulles.
Lots of stops along the way for hiking and general exploring.
I've had a love of History since I was a kid, so that side of the country is especially difficult for me to drive through without wanting to stop and look at something about every two miles.
I would certainly count an MFA as qualifying one as educated; one of my sons-in-law has an MFA from UC Riverside, and is a very intelligent young man.
