Having the guys with the earpieces milling around may come between the Senator and the people. He wouldn't like that.

On the other hand I don't recall RFK having Secret Service protection and we see how that worked out for the US as a result.

I almost wonder if this was part of the outcome of chatting with the president. It amazes me as to how long it took them to recognize the importance of this man. This should have occurred months ago. I'm guessing they got their 100K in signatures.
