(3,660 posts)Seriously though, it's pretty obvious the FBI investigation is gaining traction now that they've given immunity to her staffer. While jail probably ain't in the picture, it's going to be a mess no matter whether you think she'll weather the storm or not.
It's just too risky to vote for her and expect to win in Nov.

(16,327 posts)There would be serious hay made by the media and the GOPers over that, enough so that I truly believe she would be rendered unelectable. I can see them indicting her (you can get an indict for a ham sandwich, remember) but I seriously doubt she would be found guilty of anything. Still, the damage would be done and I don't believe she could recover. More reason for Bernie to hang in there.

(14,733 posts)Bernie won't be able to win the general either. We may be heading for President Trump no matter what happens in the primary.
Thanks, Debbie. Your plan to keep turnout down is working a charm.

(10,336 posts)Yes, I suppose a few might. But I mostly see this as a ploy. They've been trying to "pick the candidate" for us for years now. They've tossed her name out as if she is the serious contender (in fact, the only one) forever, even when it is apparent the momentum is elsewhere.

On the other hand, Bernie is reaching people on all sides of the political spectrum - except the loony Trump supporters.

(11,366 posts)Realizing, of course, that the general election brings out far more people, including many Independents who don't vote in the primaries, would these people be more apt to vote for Bernie - an anti-establishment candidate - if they knew they had that choice?
I think its far more likely he'd get more Independents and cross-over voters than she will.

(8,954 posts)You have Trump bigots and authoritarians, Rubio pro-establishment types, and Cruz theocrats and movement conservatives lumped into a big unsavory stew. But GOP voters generally dislike the other candidates and a polls indicate that a HUGE number of Rubio and Cruz supportes detest Trump. The party out of power will generally field more candidates, generate more media attention, and show up in larger numbers to caucuses and primaries. The general election is a different story, and Democrats will be coming out of the woodwork. Now there is certainly some bad blood between certain Hillary and Bernie supporters but I would venture that Democrats will rally around their candidate while a higher number of Republicans will take a pass, especially with Trump or Cruz at the top of the ticket. Rubio would be their most viable candidate, but the results so far are not working in his favor, leaving a very steep hill to climb.

(16,817 posts)Whether it is willful ignorance or blind allegiance, is that there is a significant swath of our country who not only will not vote for Sec Clinton, but will go out of their way to vote against her. Having grown up in the south and lived through the 90's, I can assure you this to be true. When it comes to GE, we all line up to talk about swing states and purple states, and that is where the rubber will be the road. The appeal of another Clinton presidency goes no further than the doorstep of the DNC. We will lose in Nov if she is the nominee. Her past and present statements, flip/flops, and personality will drive away independents who will be deciding this nomination. Now, I've seen plenty of Clinton supporters poo-poo that and give many reasons why they think it won't be so, but I think they are extremely naive.
