Might be a dupe, but I don't see it - Reddit User Claims He Was Paid to Troll Sanders supporters

I'm not that great with the snip stuff, but just saw this:

http://socialnewsdaily.com/59087/reddit-user-claims-he-was-paid-to-troll-bernie-sanders-supporters/

Not sure about the trustworthiness of that site, but it's going around. And does not surprise me one bit. I think there may be a few of them here on DU.

Edit: it's from November? I've still never seen it before or heard about it.

Now as a private citizen with millions in voluntary donations, no dirty trick would surprise me.

Indeed, I'd be surprised if it wasn't happening.

So, this is no surprise.

If you have ever had an argument with someone online and realized how dense they're being or how circular their logic was, you'd know without a doubt that some people are literally getting paid to act that dumb.

but I just didn't hear about this specific story. I'm definitely not surprised. I have noticed how bad they have been trying to spread that he is racist and misogynist, all of which are in no way even close to the truth. It's gross!

Do you think they get paid by # of replies? So acting dense or clueless serves that purpose?

It's completely believable. Not a stretch at all.

Clinton purchased Twitter/Facebook followers and likes. She did this for her campaign and also while she was at State.

I worked in PR for many years, spearheading campaigns. I still do special projects and consulting. The suggestion that Hillary employs internet posters is not surprising. Companies do it frequently. This is not uncommon (although the Public Relations Society of America condemns astroturfing).

The Clinton campaign has a large digital-outreach effort. She has hundreds of paid employees Tweeting for her. Part of their job is to help Hillary remain relevant online. They also further the campaign's latest talking points.

Maybe I was in the PR trenches for too long, but I don't have a problem with this. Companies and campaigns can't ignore social media; you have to craft a plan.

These people working for her campaign are Hillary supporters anyway. They'd probably be online doing the same thing if they weren't getting paid.

It does walk up to a line though. Getting paid to post the daily talking points is a job. It's not organic support.

It appears that Clinton does this to keep up with the organic, authentic support that Sanders enjoys, especially from those under 45 who spend more time online.
