Related: About this forumoh my god... how awesome... FULL IGNORE
I have just really discovered the FULL IGNORE feature.
In 14 years, I think I only had one person on ignore many years ago... and now, unfortunately, the possibilities seem endless... I used to think IGNORE was not conducive to quality discourse and discussion, but now I realize both are in short supply these days.
And the full amnesty... REALLY? I have two persons now on IGNORE, both just returned back because of AMNESTY. BOTH OF THEM each have over 5 jury hides since their recent return... and their comments are just belligerent bullshit.

(1,342 posts)I have 513 Hillary supporters on ignore. It is a very nice place here with them gone from my view. I got fed up and went to the Hillary threads and went through all 30 pages of threads and did a full ignore on all of them. It took me a while but I think it was a good investment in my time. It also gave me satisfaction watching their posts go poof, each time I refreshed.

You can't find the rational, thoughtful discourse (from either camp!) in the swamp of openly provocative bile. The problem with the ignore button is it's been an almost full-time job today. Trash thread the same. If you alert the worst of it, the claims of alert stalking negate the whole point of trying - now matter how vile the post.
This is intolerable. It's ridiculous. It's not the DU of old.

(18,791 posts)It most certainly has made life much more bearable here.
But then...sheesh, 4 juries today...SUCH nasty and vile posts.
Cassiopeia
(2,603 posts)it's better to just change those posters to block mail only. That maintains your list and makes it easier to block them again when you realize nothing has changed, they still post obnoxious BS that makes DU intolerable.

(46,436 posts)I have NEVER put anyone on ignore in 12 years, but with this amnesty thing, I finally had to break down and use it. Before, I was just counting on them to talk themselves right into a time out, but it seems we can't count on that now, so I have about 10 on the list now and my feed looks so much nicer.
I don't have a problem with reasonable Clinton supporters who are civil, but I've had it with the taunting.
Make that 11.

(254 posts)Do you need an ignore button to ignore people or posts?
I don't get it. Can't you just look away?
I've only been here a short while. Up to now, I don't see the point.

(20,998 posts)I have two persons on IGNORE. Just two... and let me tell you, the noise level has gone done by a factor of 10.
One poster in particular has been banned at least once, maybe twice, and comes back via amnesty. She's an ac-tee-vist.
Nope. I have been a valued and contributing member of this community for years. I will not be taunted and degraded. No. There are members of the Hillary community that are good people and wonderful contributors to this site. And then there's a little cliche of evil little ***** intent on causing trouble and being as abusive as possible.
No. I will not just look away. Neither will I be run off from something I have been a part of for many years. No.

You can get 5 (or more) jury hides and you don't get a time out or kicked off the site, correct?

(57,936 posts)just the few people I checked on.
And are they angry and annoying.
I hate hiding things but I am going to have to put people on ignore (and I really do hate it) just to stay on DU.
Art_from_Ark
(27,247 posts)But I've realized that most of the people on my Ignore list are trolls or bullies, so there's no point in even reading what they have to say anymore. They are not my allies.

(12,629 posts)Guess what? Those that I have since put on ignore were all of the ones I had there before.

(57,936 posts)I think I will also put a lot of Hillary supporters on ignore.
I wonder what would happen to this site if all the Bernie supporters left.
We post the most interesting posts.
It's kind of hard to be a Hillary supporter and find something interesting to say. That's my impression from what I read that is posted by Hillary supporters.

(9,688 posts)and I do an automatic cull.
For example I'll tend to read a subthread where someone that I know is a mature and rational "left/progressive" thinker is engaging with someone that I know is a clever "corporate/centrist" Clinton supporter. Some of those dialogues are fun reading.
Some posters are jackasses and there's nothing redeeming, so I avoid them because I know where all their posts end up.
malletgirl02
(1,523 posts)The only reason for that is that person insulted me. However, I am avoiding General Discussion Politics in the event Clinton wins, and I have to vote for her, because her supporters are making it hard for me to pull the lever for her.
If I ever go back to GDP I plan to concentrate on putting people who put smiles in discussions about Libya and Iraq. Those are the people I am going to completely write off. I can not understand how any normal person can laugh off war, death, and destruction.

(47,953 posts)Removes those annoying Hill-ads. The thing is, everyone is different. Some like to see the ads. Some don't. I'm in the latter camp.
And you are correct, there are definitely DU'ers who seem to live for trying to get others banned/posts hidden. Usually one can tell them by their sanctimony and poutrage. Better not to even let them get a foot in the door, so to speak.

(14,667 posts)so much better than the unrec button. Every troll/baiter that's come at me with some smart ass remark is on my ignore list love love love it!!!!!
dragonfly301
(399 posts)but I'm close to putting the whole site on ignore. The "get out of jail free" card was like intentionally allowing a virus to enter the bloodstream. Admin must realize the virus is going to do damage but are standing back and watching the shitstirrers do their usual baiting. I've seen red baiting and race baiting from two of the usual suspects. There is no discussion of political policy and at this point, I don't think there is anyone who will change their vote. It will be sad but let DU become "Hillary is 44" not going to say "Hillary is 45" because I seriously don't think she could win the GE.
Raster
(20,998 posts)I also believe the Admins are keeping a very close eye on just WHO is being ignored and by how many members. I think they are trying to discern just who is causing most of the grief in the DU community.
I see using FULL IGNORE as casting a ballot: who do I want to throw off the DU island.
