Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumI can't stand and won't stand 3 hours to vote
In Arizona or any other fuckyouistan, I would go home without voting. Nevermind that 3 hours waiting in line takes really 5 hours out of your day no matter how you cut it.
I doubt Hillary could stand that long either but I think Bernie could.
I physically can't do it, though I try to keep fit. But a man's got to know his limitations and I know my limits
at my age
This is voter suppression, and the powers that be can't spin this and you know it and they know it
Nobody can defend this.

WTF?
How corrupt things have become that this is allowed.
The RIGHT to vote should be protected and honored, all across America, with consistent procedures...not this hodge-podge of state by state crap.
We need that Political Revolution because...Fuck This Shit!

(20,958 posts)Dems and Repubs. AZ R's should have surged along with the rest of the country. they didn't they decreased by 20,000.
D's decreased by 50,000.
with blanket voter suppression in economically, or demographically targeted areas, they would have achieved establishment-friendly ratios.

(92 posts)I was wondering why our elections are run by the individual states and not by the federal govt.Wonder what the history is on that -- whether it's always been that way. Seems like if elections were run by the feds, it would at least ensure uniformity.

(18,791 posts)I've worried about my ballot however, I'm in California (Los Angeles County) so I'm slightly less worried about shenanigans.
I do wish I could vote online and verify my ballot even after entering it...that at least would eliminate the mail portion as well as someone else getting it scanned.

(28,791 posts)You just drop it off in person instead of mailing it back. Then you just have to worry about the election officials themselves and the machine they feed it into for the count.
In person voting has lots more opportunities for your vote to get lost... In AZ thousands of voters never got to vote, voted provisionally which probably wont be counted, machines flip votes or otherwise break down. Poll workers are untrained or partisan.

(18,791 posts)I wonder, does AZ have such a thing? And what about the remaining states?
Maybe there should be a push to get people to vote early, whenever possible.

(21,675 posts)bro voted early and mom walked in on tuesday (both for bernie, btw). she said it was busier than usual, but not overwhelming...probably because she goes super early in the morning with all the rest of the seniors!

(28,791 posts)This is why hillary's campaign pushes it so hard. Get those votes before the voters have a chance to get to know Bernie cause when they do they switch over.
Early voting is awesome tho! We just need to help him reach those voters much earlier than a month before voting.

(31,935 posts)These were taken in one of the most conservative areas of the state. No doubt he did better elsewhere:
"Democrats in both locations were trending much more strongly for Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont than former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; 62 percent of respondents favored Sanders with just 37 percent voting for Clinton."

I would sit from time to time when a chair would materialize along the line, but I was very sore the next day.
I work out in the pool at the Y three times a week, but standing turned out to be surprisingly hard on me.
It was also hot and smelly. People had just gotten off work and hadn't had supper yet. There was even a crying baby.
I was ill with tooth problems the week of early voting, but my kids said they had to stand in line for over an hour even then.
And, yes, AP called the election before I had voted.
The whole thing was very discouraging.

(23,156 posts)even at my age (67) but not everyone can.
I do have the good fortune to live in a state (NM) with excellent early voting. We had pretty good early voting in Kansas when I was there also. I haven't voted on election day itself since at least 2000.
What we need is uniform early voting, voting by mail, same day registration, a system that allows new ballots to be printed out if the supply runs low, and probably a few other things I'm not thinking of right now.
