Breaking: Sanders gets backing from key West Coast union (ILWU - 50,000 members)

Bernie Sanders secured the support of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union on Thursday.

The endorsement from a key West Coast-based union comes ahead of Saturday’s Democratic caucuses in Alaska, Hawaii and Washington.

“Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for America’s working families,” ILWU International President Robert McEllrath said.

McEllrath underscored the role Sanders’ campaign has played in advocating issues central to the organization, which largely represents dock workers.

“Bernie is best on the issues that matter most to American workers: better trade agreements, support for unions, fair wages, tuition for students at public colleges, Medicare for all, fighting a corrupt campaign finance system and confronting the power of Wall Street that’s making life harder for most Americans,” he added.
