Jon Stewart on Bernie Sanders

Oh, look, he's old(er than Hillary by almost exactly six years), no one knows who the fuck he is, and other "funny" stuff about Bernie.

BUT, also a contrast between a consistent set of principles by which Bernie has lived his life versus the Clinton Foundation's failure, over a five year period, to report tens of millions of dollars received from foreign governments.

On an earlier show, during an interview with George Steph, Stewart mentioned that some of those governments received benefits from the State Department while Hillary was Secretary of State, but did not mention that in this show.

I watch every Daily Show and Jon Stewart is a genius. I love him. That said, I thought he treated Sanders like he might treat Lindsey Graham running against a Democrat.

Anyway, watch it for yourself (including the Wig interview, where we learn voting for Sanders is like voting for a Larry David Presidency).

Letterman has tried to get cute about Bernie too. As if we shouldn't see Bernie as a serious candidate. We were very disappointed on both counts.

We are going to see a series of jabs against Bernie from the Democratic establishment which includes comedians like Bill Maher and Jon Stewart. They are in the tank for Hillary because actually they not as versed on the issues as we are.

2. I love all of them, but, as long as Colbert Letterman, Stewart, MSNBC, etc. are fighting

Republicans, it's all good. But, when they start talking sides within the Democratic Party, they almost always go Party establishment. Bernie was very welcome on MSNBC to support Obama and Democrats in Congress, not so much to give his own views.

While Kucinich was still in Congress, Colbert took pot shots at him. Also at "principles", much like you see on DU. I don't think that's a coincidence. And why did Daily Show and John Oliver go pro-GMO the same week?

The Daily Show has a website where one can register and comment on episodes. I think I may do just that, FWIW. Life today being what it is, though, most of the posts there will be paid for by the Daily Show.

But, that is the kind of thing Bernie supporters are going to have to do in hopes of helping him.

I hollered WTF at the tv a couple of times.

Pretty much convinced me to work all the harder for Bernie.

8. Pisses Me Off That Any Time Bernie Is Mentioned They Make Fun Of HIm.....

and make him out to be some kind of joke. Fallon, Letterman, Stewart are among those that do that. They show pics of Bernie with his hands flailing or his hair being unkempt and then proceed to make jokes about him. They are trying to minimize him by making the People - many whom never heard of Bernie - think that he is a crazy old man.

I posted something like this about Letterman making fun of Bernie a week ago and check out the responses that I got.

Here's the link: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026552832

The other thing they do when they mention Bernie is that he is an "avowed socialist" and it comes off as negative spin. They might as well call him a communist.

It just seems like all this is designed to make the People discount Bernie before they are ever exposed to what he says and the truth he speaks.

I don't think vows are involved.

We need to start emailing and writing networks, just so they know someone is watching and listening. I know I once commented on the Daily Show when Louis CK joked about rape. However, I just went there and it seems to be just twitter and facebook now. I was about to go to the Daily Show's facebook and see what the commenting situation is there.

At least Cruz and Paul were mocked because of what they actually say.

It was disappointing, to say the least. I expect better of him.

17. I recall Jon Stewart getting mad at Newsweek for using an unflattering picture of Michelle Bachmann
Sat May 2, 2015, 08:39 PM
May 2015

Jon Stewart: "Shame on you Newsweek! And your editor Tina Brown." According to him:

You know the worst part about when the right complains about the mainstream media? When their argument contains a kernel of truth. Case in point! This week's Newsweek cover.

Look Newsweek, that's a sh*tty picture of Michele Bachmann. And clearly not an accidentally bad picture of Michele Bachmann, because you could say a lot things about Michele Bachmann...a lot of things. But here's what you can't say about Michele Bachmann: That she's not photogenic.

Admit it Newsweek, you used that photo in a petty attempt to make Michele Bachmann look crazy...and that's what her words are for.

I didn't mind that, but I do mind his pot shots at Senator Sanders. It's one thing when he and Colbert attack the right and/or the media. When they start taking sides between Democrats, though, I have to wonder.

Stewart also does the false equivalency thing a lot, which is annoying.

I was talking to someone a while back who didn't like O'Malley. When I asked them why, it turns out they didn't have a problem with anything O'Malley had done, but remembered seeing some episode of the Daily Show where they made fun of him. The media in general is more interested in gossip and popularity contests (in part because they seem to find actual positions and legislation to be boring). We'll see if Sanders can circumvent that. More and more people are turning to alternative sources, but too many still listen to the garbage and "conventional wisdom" from traditional media sources.
