Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumIt looks like Hillary is planning on declaring she won the nomination before she has the
required amount of pledged delegates. And we already know that msnbc is going to back her up.
According to the AP at this moment she has 1776 delegates.
2383 is needed to win the nomination.
She is short 607 delegates at this moment.
Even if she wins every state on Tues, including California, she would need to win 68% of the delegates on Tues to hit the 607 she needs. That seems unlikely since CA has the largest amount of delegates & she is not going to win that state in a landslide. If she does win, it will be close.
Yet she is going to be announced as the winner. She is making up her own rules and the msm is playing along.
If this happens, what is going to be the implications? Are we supposed to just say ok? I don't think so.
Is Jake Tapper going to go along with it to after the DNC personally told him to stop it?
What is going to happen on Tues nite when they completely tear apart what is left of our voting process?
I think there is going to be hell to pay. I cannot imagine that people will be silent.
Thoughts?

Because the delegate counts between the two candidates are so close, neither candidate will have 2383 pledged delegates from the remaining primaries.
Therefore, the superdelegates will have to make up the difference. The superdelegates vote on July 25.
Hill fans will try to make it look like Bernie is cheating, but in fact he is completely within his rights to wait for the July 25 vote.
He will need a lot of encouragement and support from us, because they are going to be nasty about it. Fortunately, Hillary has been on a sweetie pie schtick for several weeks and if she stays with it, she will be nice about Bernie -- but her surrogates try to rip him to pieces.
He will need our support.

(39,451 posts)This is insane.
This is more than supporting Bernie, this is about not following the rules set by the DNC.
senz
(11,945 posts)Bernie's spokespeople will just have to make it clear that he is following the rules. If Hill doesn't reach 2383 pledged delegates, which she won't, then she hasn't won yet. We'll all have to say that over and over.
Also, we don't know how close the final counts will be.
As I posted on another thread,
As of 5/31/16, Hillary Clinton had 1770 pledged delegates and Bernie Sanders had 1500 pledged delegates.
This is according to http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/election-2016/delegate-targets/
Hillary needs 613 more delegates to reach 2383. There are only 781 pledged delegates left in the remaining nine primaries: Virgin Islands, PR, CA Mont NJ, NM, ND SD, DC
If Bernie does quite well, their final counts could be close, though neither will have won. That will make it harder for her to claim victory.

(39,451 posts)crown on Tuesday nite before she has 2383 pledged delegates.
Msnbc is planning on crowning her after she wins NJ. (I'm sure you've seen all this, but just incase you haven't - check out the video of tweety)
http://www.inquisitr.com/3168790/media-will-declare-hillary-clinton-the-nominee-at-5-p-m-pacific-time-on-tuesday-chris-matthews-claims-video/
They are making up their own rules and they know it. And flat out lying. Pure propaganda.
She is going to claim that she is the winner when she is not. That is what is insane.

(2,023 posts)They've got a track record to uphold!!
senz
(11,945 posts)Because the fact will be that no one has won yet and Bernie is following the rules.
Tweety could be made to look like an airhead for prematurely declaring Hill the winner. Who is he to decide the election? We all know about his wife's connection to Hillary.
For our part, we'll have to get the truth out there and keep repeating it over and over.
I think we can do it.
This is just one more thing about Bernie that fills me awe. He has so much courage. This will not be fun for him; the media's a beast. He is heroic.
And he has good reason to want to wait for the July 25th vote --
He polls better against Trump. Hill is going down in those polls, while Bernie's lead over Trump keeps getting bigger.
Hill has high unfavorables. People don't like her and they don't trust her. Bernie has high favorables.
And ... Hill is under FBI investigation and could be facing indictment.
All of those factors -- winning against Trump, favorability polling, and Hill's serious legal problems -- could cause the SDs to turn toward Bernie.
Oh I am so sleepy now...
I hope you and your Twitter friends will be ready with truth-telling tweets when the time comes. It's going to be a war of words and perceptions. But we have the facts on our side.

(853 posts)Just like Bush in 2000.
Once he was declared the winner it was hard to sway the public opinion to support Gore.
That's exactly what the Supreme Court affirmed too by saying that counting all the votes would do "irreparable harm" to "George Bush's reputation as the legitimate winner."

(35,619 posts)The timing for doing this is off. She might have been able to get away with it (and she indeed tried--remember her statement "I am the nominee" , but now there have been admissions by the mainstream media that she is in trouble. This causes cognitive dissonance with the media, where two points of view cannot be held simultaneously. How does the media, for example, explain this?
"Hillary Could be Indicted" story from MSNBC. In this clip, even the toadies who have supported her from Day One (Chuck Todd, Andrea Mitchell) are stumbling around for words and admit there is big trouble for her campaign. Their faces look white and they seem dumbfounded as they seek to articulate what to them is an unknown, and what to anyone who's been paying attention is the elephant in the room.
Wall Street Journal: Why Clinton May Not Be the Nominee This article breaks the news to her big donors that they may have wasted their money.
Then we have the problematic date of July 11, when the judge in the RNC records case has ordered the release of emails, plus there are other documents (3300 other pages, 2600 of which have to be reviewed by the U.S. State Department).
If she does try this, she runs the risk of being seen as "playing winner." If the devastating stories continue to come out, especially about the Clinton Foundation, the story then changes from the "race" to "are you really the winner?"
I don't think she wants to be in that position.
Finally, Bernie's still going to be running, and she needs to explain that. With Bernie continuing his campaign, she would look like a presumptuous fool.

(40 posts)we have to boycott the media. There's a counter attack that's gonna happen on twitter.
They've shown themselves to be corrupt and deceitful.

(713 posts)after they stopped mentioning anything to do with the "damn emails" that nearly every news station, and every pundit were spouting it's over Tuesday night and she will most likely be the nominee, she only has 70 (I've heard 68, 71 and a few other numbers of which I can't remember) more delegates to clinch it, blah blah blah.
Watching so many of the pundits and reporters for so long, I truly don't think some of them understand what Bernie's campaign is saying regarding the delegates and the math. They really believe the party line of what they're being told. And then others do seem to have an agenda.
It's going to be interesting Tuesday night to see what happens, because this is a serious clash of two yuge groups of people seeing two completely different realities.
Hold the positive intention of what we want everyone and see Bernie winning this whole thing. There's power in numbers in more ways than one

(11,546 posts)I don't mean you, jillan, I mean Bernie supporters in general. Let this play out at the convention. Ignore the shit disturbers and "Math" people. There is no "Math" until EVERYONE has voted and that wont happen until the convention!
Bjornsdotter
(6,123 posts)...are in such a rush to declare everything over before the convention. However, in my opinion, they are forgetting something very important. By not letting this play out as it should, they will alienate a large section of voters who may have flipped to Hillary for the GE. By rushing the fences they will piss off many voters, voters that they may well need in the GE.
Again, just my opinion.

(32,004 posts)and she may even win the primary through her cheating. But people have long memories and she risks the general with this behavior. Many Bernie supporters - especially those who declared themselves dems to vote for Bernie - will NOT be supporting her this fall no matter who the candidate is on the other side.
