Hillary Who? Progressive activists not ready for Clinton

Note to Jury: This is a verbatim copy of the title and an excerpt of a source we use all the time at DU. This is not the opinion of the op.

Chicago (CNN) — Hillary Clinton may be the presumptive Democratic nominee, but the fight to unify the party and its traditional allies in the wake of an unexpectedly long and contentious primary is poised to go on much longer.

The more than 3,000 Bernie Sanders supporters and progressive activists gathered here at the "People's Summit" have engaged in little open talk about Clinton, preferring instead to plot a path forward in the wake of the Vermont senator's defeat -- and questioning the motivations of the Democratic Party and the legitimacy of its nominating contest.

"There is massive corruption in the machinery of the Democratic Party," said RoseAnn DeMoro, the executive director of National Nurses United, the powwow's principal organizer, who had endorsed Sanders. "The only way that we can overcome that corruption and manipulation is for all of us not to work in isolation."

DeMoro lamented the party's push to gather endorsements and support from Sanders' backers, calling it "a very negative dialogue."

Its message, she said, is that "if you're not with Clinton, then you're pro-Trump."

She is the antithesis of progressive activism. If not the actual enemy of it.

I've had very little to say about her all along, other than that she is a neo-liberal. Just this week, I read a post complaining about all the epithets we were calling her, like neo-liberal.

How Orwellian. Neo-liberalism is real, it's a fact, and she's been a willing soldier in the spread of neo-liberalism in the U.S. I guess truth is an epithet if it reflects badly on the chosen one.

Starting Monday, I'll have nothing whatsoever to say about her here, and very little at all to say in the rest of the world. I hope to be a part of progressive activism.

From past experience, that probably means I'll have very little to say here at DU for some time. Presidential elections dominate the conversation; it's hard to find an issues-based conversation that ISN'T about the election. Then, should she prevail, all issues conversations have to revere the neo-liberal in the WH, so again, there's very little to talk about. Criticizing the Democratic presidents appointments or policies makes one a pariah, as I learned in '09.

Still, I'll be around a little bit, in forums that aren't talking about Clinton.

And no matter what sort of progressive-sounding noises she makes - the thing you can take to a Wall St. bank is that she'll completely FORGET those utterances once she's elected. I'll even go so far as to say that it's not that she WANTS to forget them - it's that she HAS TO forget them.

Hi. I created a petition on change.org to encourage Hillary to withdraw. I don't have much of any power to wield, so I'll do it with this petition and my vote.

Totally understand those that feel they must vote for her or face the ruin that will come with Trump, but I've just had enough (and I still don't think Trump is a real candidate).

Please consider signing my petition.

Thanks!

At #PPLSummit @ShaunKing nails historic moment: "Never before, after a (campaign) victory or loss, have people said 'I'm not finished.'"

And I wish these ignorant reporters would stop using this "presumptive" bullshit. She hasn't won the nomination. That's what the convention is for. And once Wikileaks drops another load of documents, she'll be more toxic than lead paint-politically.

I would say welcome to DU, but many are not welcome here any more.

when Secretary Clinton wins the Presidency of these United States, will she press for legislation that extends Selective Service Registration to women? It is the last glass ceiling, after all.

IMO It is clear that the military want this and many voters of both sexes are willing to approve it.

It seems to me that the real question is whether they will activate the draft as a means of building up force strength. Doing so would involve a more complete discussion in Congress than we have yet had regarding the American Empire and its present condition vis-a-vis war and war powers conferred on the President by preceding Congressional actions.
