(31,383 posts)2. Sunday: Conway, McCain, Sanders, and Scott
As President-Elect Donald Trump prepares to name his final few cabinet picks, what do the names hes offered thus far say about his impending presidency? And how will Democrats grapple with Trumps nominations and his agenda, more broadly? Well look into it Sunday on Face the Nation.
Well talk with Kellyanne Conway, who managed Trumps presidential campaign and is now a senior advisor to his transition effort, about Trumps decision-making process. Whats on his mind as he makes these staffing decisions? And what does Trumps team make of the criticism directed at some of the names unveiled thus far?
Well also talk with Arizona Sen. John McCain, a Republican who distanced himself from Trump during the campaign but has offered praise for some of Trumps cabinet picks. How will the Republican-controlled Senate exercise its responsibility to evaluate Trumps nominees? And does McCain have any specific reservations about any picks that have been announced?
From the other side of the aisle, well hear from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, about how Democrats will approach the confirmation process. Can Democrats play ball with Trump on some issues while fighting him on others? Or is the well too poisoned for any cooperation?
Well sit down with Sen. Tim Scott, a Republican from South Carolina, to discuss the news of the day and to reflect on the ongoing conversation about race, law enforcement, and justice in America. What was Scotts reaction to the mistrial in the Michael Slager case? And does he see any cause for hope in the new year?
As always, well dissect the busy news week with an expert political panel. This Sunday, well hear from Slate Magazines Jamelle Bouie, whos also a CBS News Political Analyst, the Associated Presss Lisa Lerer, Washington Post columnist Michael Gerson, and Michael Duffy of Time Magazine, which named Trump its 2016 Person of the Year.
Its going to be an exciting broadcast, so make sure you tune in! Check your local listings for airtimes.
