BURLINGTON, Vt.

The 35th Annual Pomerleau Holiday Party attracted hundreds of people in Burlington Sunday.

480 adults and children were joined by Mayor Miro Weinberger (D - Burlington) and democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I - VT) at the Hilton in Burlington.

“It feels wonderful and we feel very grateful to be here,” said Susan Woods of Burlington.

For 35 years, Burlington developer and philanthropist Tony Pomerleau has thrown the party for Burlington families in need.

It all started from a conversation with then-Mayor Bernie Sanders.

“You and I may have our disagreements but you love the city. I love the city. Let's see how we can work together,” Sanders recalled of his conversation with Pomerleau.

So, the holiday party was born.

“Tony put up the money then and he's been putting up the money for the last 35 years and I think it's been a beautiful beautiful program that many thousands of people have enjoyed,” said Sanders.

“Tony has stepped up to the plate all these years,” said Gary Rogers with Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront. “It's been a very special relationship with the city of Burlington and tony to put this party on.”

Senator Sanders is a regular at the party.

“What life is about is to give back to your community. to understand there are a lot of people in economic trouble, try to make life a little bit better for them,” said Sanders to the crowd.
