As easy as it may be to see Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) presidential campaign as a quixotic exercise, launched by a candidate who doesn’t really expect to hold national office, Alex Seitz-Wald reported on the Vermont independent’s strong start as a White House hopeful.
Sen. Bernie Sanders raised more than $1.5 million in the 24-hours since he announced his presidential run, his campaign announced Friday.

It’s a strong performance for a candidate many pundits have dismissed as fringe, outpacing Republican candidates who have recently announced.
In a statement, Tad Devine, a Sanders adviser who worked as a top aide to Al Gore and John Kerry, described the $1.5 million first-day haul as “a remarkable start for Bernie’s campaign.”

FULL story at link. How to donate to Bernie through the DU info below. DU for Bernie is in front of two PACs and the top fund raiser at Act Blue!

Bernie's campaign uses Act Blue too. This just keeps a total of $ donated by DUers.

All the donated $ to Bernie goes to Bernie except for the actual charge card fee by law: http://support.actblue.com/faq#q15

IF you give a tip it goes to Act Blue, the most successful Democratic $ raising PAC for their in house expenses like rent, payroll, IT, etc.

Tote board and donate here: https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/page/duforbernie

It takes a few minutes for the tote board to show your donation on the now live goal o meter just below.

I just assumed the people who set up the group set goals, I didn't realize ActBlue automatically upped the goal each time it got met.

... why does the media always make it about 'who raises the most money'? Bernie's campaign is largely about getting money OUT of the system. So they're saying he's a success based on how much money he's bringing in? The one with the most donations wins, regardless of their message? I didn't realize elections were now telethons.

That makes abso-fucking-lutely no sense.

Go Bernie!!

When Bernie first mentions getting money out of politics, he gets the biggest applause. I think a lot of people don't vote because they are fed up. They see the system as corrupt and the entrenched pols as working for their own interests. From what I have seen around the web, he is seriously striking a chord with young people. They don't understand Democratic Socialism, they have never voted or even registered to vote even at the age of 40, but they are getting active now because he is HONEST. That can spread his budget very far.

In this election environment individuals rarely are able to out shout corporate interests, but if you look we're still there and only we thus far are able to vote.

He had said all along that he was waiting for Elizabeth Warren to throw her hat in the ring. As a long time fan of Elizabeth's, I was waiting for that. When Bernie announced his candidacy, it signaled unequivocally and finally that Elizabeth was not going to run. At that moment, my choice was clear. Bernie 2016. I'm in.
