(3,186 posts)Clever idea, and an early Happy Birthday to you!
I hope you and your friends have a great time!
I hope they bring people. I was trying to figure out how to have a Bernie event at my house that is not just open to the public but goes beyond my immediate circle. And I was trying to figure out timing because we are so busy. This seemed like the best idea.

(14,691 posts)Democratic several months ago for the purpose of voting for Bernie. I have an "approval notice" dated March 24, 2015 with my new voter registration card. So far, so good EXCEPT it doesn't take effect until NOVEMBER 10, 2015. I hope to God this doesn't mean I can't vote for him. I was annoyed in March that it wasn't more-or-less instantaneous but now I'm concerned.

(14,691 posts)BUT - I just looked up the NYS voter registration website and found this:
-snip-
November 3, 2015 General Election Deadlines
MAIL REGISTRATION (N.Y. Election Law Section 5-210(3))
Applications must be postmarked no later than October 9th and received by a board of elections no later than October 14th to be eligible to vote in the General Election.
-snip-
It appears that that Oct. 9th deadline is only for this year. The board of elections received my application and approved it back in March. Maybe it's OK. I'm going to call them tomorrow for clarification.

(17,045 posts)It should be more clear.

(14,691 posts)nothing there about 2016. So, the deadline for voting in the April 2016 NYS Democratic primary for Bernie might not be Oct. 9. I'll call them tomorrow and post what they tell me.

(1,573 posts)I wish I had your drive.
From what I've been able to determine, the October 9th deadline is for voters who are already registered who want to switch their affiliation to Democrat. Those persons not registered at all have until 25 days before the primary to register (as Democrats, of course).
(My niece turns 18 on January 1, 2016, but since she's not 18 by the end of 2015, she can't register to vote in 2015. So we called to check it out.)
