1. It's not only lip service, either.

There is not a politician who would say publicly that he or she doesn't care whether or not the planet can sustain human life. However, will 95% of them even try to do something meaningful about it? There is no a politician who would say publicly that he or she is not concerned about our 4th amendment rights. However, they will go ahead and vote for every Patriot Act and renewal and amendment anyone throws at them, lest someone accuse them of leaving the barn door open for terrorists. Bernie won't. And so on.

3. anecdote: I was watching news with a wealthy republican friend who was

silently listening to the candidates say things. She then pooh-poohed most of them. I said I'm for Bernie. She said, I hear good things about him.

*HEAD EXPLODES*!

We talked about it. She is open. She hates everyone else. This is huge if you knew her.
