Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumTabling for Bernie today at the local university.
I had set the table upright, that's it. No signs up yet, no fliers out yet, just a table. Not even a tablecloth (I had my Bernie t-shirt on), when they started coming over to me, "Yeah! Bernie Sanders! He's my guy" and words to that effect. In 3 hours we went through 230 fliers and got 44 volunteer sign ups. In three hours.
I was going to get pictures but these guys were 3-deep at times waiting to hear more about Bernie, waiting to get fliers, waiting to sign up to volunteer and I couldn't catch a breath before I was talking to another student, and another, and another. We also had about 10 people register to vote as well.
The Journalism professor came by and thanked us for being there. We told him we're going to be out there every Friday (the students asked us to be there on Mondays as well) so he's going to come by and interview one of us for the campus newspaper next week.
I swear we were like our own little rainbow coalition out there as one of our volunteer organizers is Hispanic and Spanish-speaking, one is African American and me, the little old white lady.
So . . . if you're looking for opportunities to Table for Bernie and if you have a college or university in your town, this is a GREAT way to do it. The only thing that cost us any money was what we spent on flier copies. That's it! I donated the table & chairs, one of the other volunteers had the Bernie signs and voter registration forms and the rest of the time we just talked to people.
I can't begin to tell you how tired and energized I am all at the same time.
Next week, I promise, pictures!

I'm still thinking that the lame MSM and entrenched DINO types are so in their bubble, that they do not understand this storm...and hey, that just might be good!
Go Bernie! Go Berners!

(75,480 posts)I and my partner in crime wear our Bernie buttons to meetings and other gatherings and people always want to come up and talk about Bernie and it's all positive. I can't wait until we are able to do some tabling.

(22,271 posts)the people will come to you. We had people who came up, talked about Bernie, signed up to volunteer and began working the table with us then and there. We had table, tablecloth (an old, stained one I've had for like 150 years), 2 chairs, a few signs, 230 fliers, volunteer sign-up sheets (downloaded from the BernieSanders.com website), voter registration forms and pens. Half of those things most of us can scrounge up pretty easily. That's what I'm saying, you get a really good return for your volunteer time. And the beauty of it is, the more volunteers you get, the more events you can be at and the volunteers are there to do whatever needs to be done.

(16,844 posts)For some reason, I always thought you were a Hispanic guy. I guess the name threw me off. It's funny how wrong we are sometimes when we imagine what other DUers are like.
Thanks for working for Bernie's campaign. I haven't done anything except send a little money. The area I live in is heavily Republican, so I don't expect any Democrat to do well here. I try to persuade others to vote in the Democratic Primary for Bernie -- we have open primaries in Miss. Most people don't seem to be into politics right now. They think the primaries are a long way off. It's September now, though. Just a few more months.

Not that it matters but its funny.
I only knew she was a little old white lady was because shes said it before. Otherwise I would have thought she was in a Quintette de Hot Club of France cover band!!!! Yes, Django is my hero! My dog is even named after him

(10,495 posts)Awesome! I am going to give it a shot at my local University. You first have to go take a short class at the county clerks office before you can register people to vote here. If you are going to include registering voters, check your local and state rules.
