Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumThis week my Bernie event..
Is in Oakland. We're meeting with a woman who has been doing grass roots organizing for 25 years. She was also flown to Chicago in 2007 by the Obama campaign to learn their grassroots tactics.
She is having a pot luck and will be passing on her wisdom to about 20 of us.
I've organized volunteers before, but it has been a long time. This will be a great place to learn and connect with like minded people.
I'm very excited about this particular gathering. This is for people who want to organize, given by an experienced, knowledgeable, kind organizer.
I'll post about it later in the week.
Happy Labor Day! Thank you, unions!

(17,997 posts)I'm positive we'll get some great instruction. We're planning a event in October. I'm sure this event will help us create a great one for the East Bay!

(45,251 posts)Different issue, but "training" reminded me: A PBS show about the civil rights movement mentioned that the demonstrators had been trained. I hope that stuff was written down somewhere--even though I am not entirely sure that government still feels a need to respond to the citizenry using measures that were used then.
Happy Bernie's Birthday!

(17,997 posts)So far, have only found one event fewer than 10 miles from me. That's on the 20th and I invited the woman giving the pot luck. She accepted. Which is great because that event is also for organizers.
We're planning an event here in October. Both these events will surely help us get our event right. Like I said, it's been YEARS since I did any grassroots organizing.
No, the government doesn't give a shit about us. Notice it took corporations protesting the RFRA in Indiana to cause any change.
It is written down. I've read some of it. But, again, it's been YEARS so I couldn't tell you where
Yes, Happy Birthday Bernie!

(45,251 posts)Members of the original groups are old now, many gone. So, if it was only oral, it's on its way to be lost forever.

There was a map on here predicting that Bernie would carry Colorado. I don't know if you saw it or not. I don't remember the link, but Colorado is apparently becoming a hotbed of Bernie support, particularly in the urban corridor along the eastern slope of the Rockies. We call that the 'front range,' and it has Ft. Collins, Boulder, metro Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo.
