Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumCan Bernie Sanders find unity with Liberty University?
Interesting op-ed by a (I assume) conservative Christian. He agrees with Bernie on pretty much everything, with the following exception:
Such a position seems perfectly consistent with the progressive morality Sanders is preaching.
It would also make for a great conversation at Liberty University.
And, perhaps most importantly for Sanders, it might make Christians like me people who are serious about economic inequality and excited about the Sanders candidacy to translate that enthusiasm into a vote.
However, even this sounds somewhat conciliatory, to my mind. A candidate can be pro-choice AND want to work to reduce the number of abortions at the same time (like Planned Parenthood!).
Comments are also interesting.

(60 posts)Bernie is very popular with republicans in Vermont. I am very curious to see how he will be accepted at Liberty.
As for the abortion issue, I don't know anyone who would say "yes, we need more of them" Precention of unwanted pregnancies is the issue. If those numbers are greatly reduced (sex-Ed and birth control!), it would not be a big issue.
Social issues like abortion are best left on the edges, they don't effect most people everyday like jobs, access to healthcare, education, etc and they are meant to divide and distract.

(45,251 posts)are anti-abortion will vote Republican and those who are pro-choice will vote Democratic. Anyone who sees ending a pregnancy of even ten minutes duration as murder is not going to vote Democratic. It is what it is.

(11,945 posts)Most of those people are thoroughly brainwashed by rightwing media. They need to hear the facts, and Bernie speaks in facts. He doesn't fancy it up or falsify. If he can wake some of them up everywhere he goes, it will help both his campaign and the whole country.
