Sanders Halloween? The Bernie Boo! Not to early to begin preparing!

Last edited Sun Sep 13, 2015, 12:11 PM - Edit history (5)

Halloween is not far away. Taking kids trick or treating and receiving trick or treaters may be a great opportunity to harangue share about Bernie Sanders.

LEAFLETS are the campaigning key, but there are other things you can bring.

Whether you are going around trick and treating or receiving trick or treaters, you can hand out to the adults (only the adults) leaflets that you can put together yourself to say whatever you want or print out from the Bernie Sanders Group or facebook, in both English and Spanish, maybe along with mini-campaign buttons. Think about also using this link to find upcoming Sanders events near you and printing out a list of them to include as part of your leaflet or handout. https://go.berniesanders.com/page/event/search_simple

2016 Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders Halloween costumes are, of course, what to wear..

On this thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/128046473, dflprincess posted a great pic of Bernie on a Stick, which would make a great and inexpensive mask.

on this thread.

After that, you basically need jeans, khakis, or any kind of toned down trouser, a shirt, either a Bernie T or a dress shirt, preferably pale blue, which Bernie seems to favor for campaigning, or denim or white, again anything toned down. Boom. You have a 2016 Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders costume that you will not waste a lot of money on for only a couple of hours worth of wear one time. The child and adult could trick or treat dressed similarly. You could also gild that lily, as follows:

If you like add an American flag and/or a makeshift picket sign with a message or your choice, and/or hurry up (orders take time to fill) and order some campaign buttons from the Bernie store. They can be part of the costume. Trick or treaters can also leave one with an adult at the homes and apartments they visit.

What you request

The haints will get you if Halloween is not about the usual Halloween treats. However, you can also request a donation to the Sanders campaign and/or attendance at a future Sanders volunteer event, or that people watch the October 13 debate and stay tuned for future debates.

What you have

Fun.

Fun with Bernie Sanders, adorable kids in costumes, including, but not limited to, your own offspring, friends and neighbors.

ETA: You can also have a Halloween Party or Potluck to which everyone has to come dressed as Bernie, or a ballot or something like that. Have a portion of it be a Bernie volunteer event.

For refreshments: coffee, soft drinks, one of the Bernie Brew Beers and Bernie cupcakes (and whatever else you or your guests come up with).

to appalachiablue for the cupcakes:

2. If you want to run off some smalll flyers about Bernie,

here's a good link. I've run off a couple and made them into good flyers on my computer, not COLOR, but with b/w you still get the facts out there.

If you wanted to make the flyers in color you could do that as well I'm sure.

Here's the link:

There are other links too. Here's a good general one that runs off front and back (I have to put it through twice rather than use a 2-sided option, i.e., make the 2-sided by hand instead of automatically):

I wish flyers had a thread in this group all their own.

The ones you linked look great!

4. Besides the Bernie pumpkin, another idea is to get one of those insulated large coffee office

things and 5 oz cups, and offer coffee to adults to get them to come up to the door with their kids, and have Bernie flyers/leaflets on the table with the coffee. Also, if you get plain paper cups, you could write Bernie quotes on the cups themselves, so even if they don't grab a flyer, they take a Bernie quote with them.

5. You can even just do a big paper Bernie pumpkin and somehow put in front of a computer or laptop,

with Bernie speaking behind it, via a youtube video or, also via a you tube video, a compiliation of Bernie Sanders campaign songs. (Speaking just for me, i'd omit his version of This Land Is Your Land. Yooge fan of Senator Senators, not so much of that version.)

Great ideas, thanks!

6. Good ideas and I am going to have to do a Bernie pumpkin.

Thinking of using JackPine Radical's fringe candidate as a template. Maybe another one that just says 'BERN'.

I wish I could do one as good as this one of Obama, but the pumpkin would rot before I could finish it:

7. Lots of fun, but I am not ambitious enough: A Bernie Sanders Haunted House or Haunted Barn.

(A Haunted BarnBerner?)

Outside the entrance, people could be handed a "2016 Presidential primary ballot" with one name, Bernie Sanders. They can proceed to hope for a better nation only if they put a check mark next to Bernie's name.

Inside, people dressed as Bernie Sanders or even people carrying big photos of Sanders could defeat "specters" of ever declining purchasing power, massive educational loan debt, disappearing parks, union busting, etc. Nothing too heavy, like neocon wars or institutionalized racism.

Playing via you tube in the background would, of course be, speeches made by Bernie Sanders and/or Bernie Sanders campaign songs and jingles.

As people leave, they get Bernie Sanders pamphlets and info about the coming Bernie volunteer events in the area.

That's off the top of my head. I'm sure a group of volunteers brainstorming could make it "funner."

9. Yes. I prefer funny to scary.

While the rest of America watches scary movies during Shocktober, I watch Love at First Bite, which a friend gave me as a gift, knowing I don't like horror movies.

12. thanks. I stole one of the best from your post, Bernie on a Stick!

I did give you credit and linked to your post, so maybe "stole" is not the right word.

Maybe recycled?

and I can't take credit for the "Bernie on a Stick".

The clever folks at the Bernie table in the DFL's state fair booth came up with it. I'm sure they would be happy it's getting attention.
