It takes a while for it to sink in that just repeating the same thing that doesn't work over and over again, makes no sense.
Thanks for the link and the OP.

(62,325 posts)was going to do it, I WANTED him to but it seemed like such a huge mountain to climb, how would people get to know him, the Media we knew would not help.
I have to say whoever is running his campaign is doing a fantastic job, but most of all, people are HEARING him, and he is getting so much free promotion from so many enthusiastic supporters, it's just amazing.

(13,685 posts)I said so here on DU a month ago. Like I said Obama would take NC in 2008. And lose it in 2012.

I can't say for sure, but that is what I read on Social Media.

(41,103 posts)the home of populism before Huey Long, and other areas including the Midwest and hard hit Post-industrial Rust Belt areas that have experienced economic hardship, deterioration of their standard of living and disillusionment with the establishment for decades!
Bernie's populist, progressive message, his platform, solutions and genuine concern for the lives of regular working people of all backgrounds are connecting with Americans all across the country. He's offering them plans, solutions and inspiration that's past due and not seen on the national level in decades. Enough is enough!
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)that a Progressive Message won't sell in the South. Which is why we had to have Third Way Dems run. I never believed that. I think any candidate who touches on issues that people are wrestling with every day, can win, anywhere.
Thanks for the information, and I love that pic! AND Bernie's hair!

(41,103 posts)Bernie. It often takes the right vehicle to organize and mobilize it and that is Bernie now, Man of the People and one of a kind!
There's sometimes a deep distrust of corporations and banks that have ripped off small farmers, merchants and the common man in areas of the South and Midwest, goes back a long ways. Environmentalism, conservation and regard for nature are often prevalent too since many love, live close to and depend on the natural world.
*That is a great image of Bernie 2016- stunning blue, white and design. I'd love a T shirt, Yard Sign or car logo with it.

(14,559 posts)Because no one who works 40 hours a week should live in poverty, period. We should all have healthcare and a strong Social Security. We need to get rid of these disastrous 'free trade' deals and bring jobs back here - good ones, the kind you can raise a family on, the kind with good benefits and pensions.
Put these things in place and it will be a game changer for the American worker, because we can outperform, out produce anyone on the planet if given a chance.
Put these things in place and it will be a game changer for American families as well. Kids able to attend college, paid medical leave, good wages. Americans work harder than anyone else in the industrialized world, and we should reap some of the benefits.
Go Bernie!

(13,057 posts)I'm not saying he can't win in the South but since this is a national race all he has to do in the South is stay close.
There are several factors in play here. First of all, because of the way that delegates are allocated the South will have proportionately fewer delegates than other regions because in 2012 most southern states were won by the Republican candidate. Those states will be penalized for that. However many states in other regions will be awarded with more delegates because President Obama won those states in 2012. And those states in other regions could be states where Bernie's campaign is stronger. If Bernie is going to lose any region the South is the best region to lose since it has fewer delegates. Again, I am not predicting that he will lose in the South. I am just laying out a possible scenario.
Secondly, it's all about expectations, not necessarily winning outright. Hillary is widely believed to be a shoe in in South Carolina. So if Bernie comes closer than expected in South Carolina it might be regarded as a moral victory and it might even add to his momentum. And because of proportional delegate allocation he won't get that many fewer delegates out of the state than Clinton does.
And finally, there is the bandwagon effect. This phenomenon is well known in politics. If the polls hold and Bernie sweeps Iowa and News Hampshire I can virtually guarantee you that Bernie's support in South Carolina will increase. If it increases enough to win outright we don't know, but as I already said a close second in that state would probably be enough to keep his momentum going as the campaign goes forward.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)due to delegate count, the South would be the better choice to lose. However, the way this is going which I think has surprised even him, who knows what might happen? The people really are fed up to the teeth with the same old campaign rhetoric, same candidates election after a elected, things seem to be getting worse for ordinary people and the only DIFFERENT and SANE choice is someone most people never heard of before.

(6,699 posts)This is great. I'm hoping Biden will jump in, and I can get off the Clinton wagon for good. If Bernie can sustain this type of attention, maybe, just maybe he can be "the guy". Hell, who would have thought President Obama was going to be "the guy" at this time in 2007?

It just goes to show that there are no certainties in politics and mostly, a Progressive Message sells despite all we've been told to the contrary.

He doesn't talk down to people
He admits his flaws and he is not perfect
He is someone just listening to you can tell he isn't full of himself through arrogance or run away ego
He understands that this country needs a radical change NOW as the current "Reaganomics" has destroyed the middle class
He believes in HELPING people get education and employment who SEEK TO BETTER THEMSELVES AND WHO WANT TO BE A
PRODUCTIVE MEMBER OF SOCIETY AND INDEPENDENT.
But the biggest reason is due to so much hate and intolerance being spewed from the Right.

(5,400 posts)2014 was a disaster, let's not mince words, and we need to get to the polls the new types of voters who've turned out for President Obama. Especially the way they came out in 2008.
With the youth vote getting energized, and a large numbers of the disaffected, we can take back power at the local, and national, level. I'm sorry HRC supporters, but Secretary Clinton is not showing an ability to escape being labeled as a same old/same old establishment politician. And we need the excitement the Sanders campaign is generating to get out the non-voters.
