Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumSuggestion for fund/friendraising event: BAGELS WITH BERNIE
The basic set-up would be this:
1)set out a spread of assorted bagels and various fixings(anything from cream cheese and lox to flavored cream cheeses to hummus or whatever)
2)Show video of Bernie discussing the most pressing stuff of the week.
3)Have a table with a laptop on it so people could log-in to the website and set-up their recurring donations and/or sign-up sheets with volunteer activities or commitments to attend state caucuses or conventions in support of Bernie.
Requires a mininum of set-up time, can easily be done in someone's living room, relatively low-expense(storebought bagels like Lender's would be just fine, they don't have to be super-fancy), and a chance to introduce people who haven't actually heard Bernie's message directly so they will become involved and will also spread the idea to their friends.
The use of a laptop or other computer to get donations would also be a way for new Bernie organizations to avoid having someone immediately take over treasurer duties(which is usually the hardest role to fill in a campaign).
And I went with "Bagels" as the suggested snack because:
a)It honors Bernie's Brooklyn roots;
b)everybody likes bagels;
c)the alliteration of "Bagels" and "Bernie" would help the idea stick in people's minds.
What do folks think about this as an event model? Looking for feedback.

(17,997 posts)And, if the person hosting has the means, Burgers for Bernie would be cool too. Doesn't speak to his Brooklyn roots but I think your idea works with any food that starts with a B. It will stay in people's minds

(9,086 posts)It's very a very catchy name because of the double B sound.
A couple more ideas:
Put out a few pieces of fruit too and maybe some potato chips.
Coloring pages and crayons for kiddies.
Everybody leaves with a souvenir! Like a pin or something.

(32,826 posts)Meet ups are great. They don't take a lot of pre planning other than getting folks to attend. We did a lot of them, it was pretty successful in our area.
