The video at the root of the claim that Sanders did not suppot gay marriage.

http://www.c-span.org/video/?c4548262/sanders-gay-marriage

I listened to it twice.

What do you think he says?

I think he supports civil unions but also says that the federal government should NOT overrule gay marriage.

Please listen to this so that you can respond to statements that are false about Bernie on this issue. Thanks.

Yes, he supported civil unions given what was occurring then. Yes, he did not want the Feds to overrule gay marriage in states that already had it or civil unions.

Sanders has a history stretching back to the 1970's of full civil rights support for LGBT people. There is document proof of this.

This is just another Rovian swift boating topic like the racial issues, the socialism, and guns.

I give facts and then move on. It is not worth the drama with these fuckers any longer.

I was a strong supporter of civil unions, I believe that. I voted against the DOMA bill, I believe that the federal government should not be involved in overturning Massachusetts or any other the state because I think the whole issue of marriage is a state issue.

No where does he say he opposes same sex marriage, supports civil unions over it or thinks that states should be able to ban it.
