Bernie Sanders, What the Hell Have You Done for Us Lately?

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2015/10/06/1428616/-Bernie-Sanders-What-the-Hell-Have-You-Done-for-Us-Lately#

You don’t have to like Bernie Sanders’s ideas. I get it. He’s a Democratic Socialist, a progressive, and some folks don’t like that. However, you can't say he doesn't have any accomplishments. Here are 28 of them, just to name a few.

~Sanders votes against the USA Patriot Act. "All of us want to protect the American people from terrorist attacks, but in a way that does not undermine basic freedoms," Sanders says at the time.

~Sanders votes against the Bush-Cheney war in Iraq. He warns at the time that an invasion could "result in anti-Americanism, instability and more terrorism." We now know that that war was one of the worst foreign policy decisions in our history.

~About 10 years before the 2008 Wall Street crash spins the world economy into a massive recession, Sanders votes "no" on a bill to undo decades of financial regulations enacted after the Great Depression. The House passed the bill 362-57 over Sanders' objection.

Very good article

but then I thought I better not because it could get to be a really long OP. So I added the one about his no vote on financial deregulations

Excellent article. Nice comments. It is so refreshing to read favorable articles on Bernie.

What is the ratio of positive Bernie articles to negative Bernie articles?

Of course TV "journalism" is highly skewed against Bernie. Let's not get started on radio.

after spending all day yesterday with my Fox News-listening siblings and spouses, helping with a house move. We managed to stay away from politics most of the day til during a rest break(we are all 65+ in age) Phyl said that her husband had thought he'd seen my photo at a Bernie rally in his copy of the Washington Times(yes he is that delusional). No, it wasn't me, darn it. Trying to keep it light, I commented that the day before I had seen another auto at our local supermarket right next to mine with a Bernie bumper sticker, and I had taken a photo as such sights are rare in our ossified little city. Then my sister-in-law, literally, sneered: "I guess you think it is ok for Obama to go and disrupt the funerals for those poor people in Oregon, with his huge entourage of over 100 people, after the sheriff told him to stay away. Those poor people shouldn't have to be subjected to him and his bunch." I refrained from any comment on that, other than, yes, those poor people. Then another sister, who is a moderate and doesn't watch Fox News, said: "Oh, you mean like W. Bush did after 9-11"? Which caused the SIL's jaw to drop as Karen doesn't usually say anything remotely political, but even she is fed up with the propaganda she hears repeated from Fox. I said: "Well, at least W didn't bother the folks in NO after Katrina, he just flew over in his plane". Dead silence at that point. Then, someone said let's get back to work and we did and there was tension for a while. I didn't want to make the day harder for my sis who is moving, and had resolved not to let them drag me into a discussion. She is 76 and leaving a home of 25+ years that she loved to be nearer our family.

One wonders what the media & opponents will use to attack Bernie, but something on this list of his accomplishments will be it, no doubt, as 'you attack his strengths'.

I got confirmation of 1 attendee for my Debate Watch party just yesterday. In a town of 40,000, there will surely be more, as I am the only one for 40 miles, I think.

If I had a close relative who was a rightist, I don't know what I'd do.

Peace to you.

as I do, that life circumstances can cause individuals to become blind to what's going on in the world or even their lives. We - 7 siblings - were raised Democrats, but my sisters, 3 of them, are married to scared, angry older white men, who are addicted to Fox News. In our area, rural MO & IL, you are in a definite minority if liberal. Until Reagan, Repukes didn't even run for office around here, then talk radio got started and the next thing you know - government is evil, liberals are evil or stupid and despite their voting right-wing for 30 years, things keep going from bad to worse and they can't make the connection!

Once some politicians made a positive difference in their lives, they won't care which letter is in the parentheses after the name.
