Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumMy 24 year old daughter loves Bernie so much she started crying last night
when I told her Bernie was one of only two sitting US Senators to hear MLKs "I Have a Dream Speech" in person in the March on Washington and led the first ever civil rights sit-in in Chicago history to protest segregated housing. She already knew how great Bernie is on the issues and how pitch perfect he is on communicating his ideas in a no nonsense manner with respect and humility. To add this civil rights history along with the support for gay rights (told her about Burlingtons Gay Pride Parade in 81) it was too much for her. She cried and said "he's just too good for us Mama". I cried too. We both agree there will be no greater leader in my lifetime and maybe not hers either. And she said "We millenials need to vote and in big numbers and he will win". I said yep. Let's get to work for Bernie!

(19,089 posts)What a heartbreaker ...
So human to say that ...
I am just beginning to realize something rather profound > Young people listening to Bernie, hearing how he focuses on regular people ... THEIR needs ... THEIR dignity ... It is finally a moment where young minds can be profoundly changed to a POSITIVE outlook ... One that can actually see a POSITIVE future, as part of a positive worldview, depicting regular families of ALL colors and races and ethnic identities moving forward into a safe environment where everybody succeeds if they apply themselves (Free University anyone ?) ...
Bernie could really focus a lot of minds on the things that matter ... It is truly an extraordinary moment for the young ...
Your daughter has a strong and beautiful heart ...

discuss the effect social media may be having on our kids' interpersonal relationships. That is, how can they learn to be a friend family member co-worker boy/girl friend if social media is the prevalent way of communicating? We think at a minimum such relationships will be altered when compared to how they were before social media had such a profound presence in our lives. It seems that Bernie has a knack for getting through to these kids. Bernie I believe at his core is a teacher and these kids are ready for direction and learning. And Bernie has them listening and very enthusiastic. I also find it very refreshing and honest of these kids to not consider his age as a barrier. They hear him clear as a bell speaking to all those things you so artfully listed. They know he's real they sense it.

(41,600 posts)Your post made me tear up! Bernie just seems too good to be true, I know! I've always known how Progressive he is, but reading about his early years and how deeply involved in Civil Rights, how hard he has worked for the poor and working class and how incensed he becomes when other people aren't as empathetic, well, it warms my heart!
When I see him take it to the greedy Wall St thieves, the D.C. elites, Big Pharma/Big Ag/Big Oil - I love him even more. He is so genuine, so honest, so caring and is exactly what this country needs, so I know he'll be our next President. We NEED him to be.

(2,212 posts)I won't name the site in mind, but I think some of you know exactly what site I'm referring to. I call it "The Sauerkraut Barrel." Lots of cabbages fermenting in their own sour juices.
Anyway, I find the story here touching and relatable. Thanks for sharing.
Go, Bernie!
