Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumSo I'm happy. How do I know Bernie hit on all cylinders at the debate?
A friend on FB supported Hillary in 2008 and beyond. Up to the day of the debate he was posting about Hillary and her stand on the issues, this morning he is posting about Bernie. It made my day!

(17,997 posts)An aunt, who is basically a conservative, has actually come out in support of Bernie after the debate. I knew she was unhappy with the republican choices but I really thought she would favor Hillary. But she's a military wife (retired) and Bernie is better than everyone there.

(248 posts)What really struck me is that in all of the focus groups done after the debate, not only did most people like Bernie the best but many people who were leaning towards Hillary before the debate actually switched to Bernie afterwards! Just imagine this on the scale of (hopefully) millions of people. I will be really shocked if Bernie does not get a bump in the polls because of this.

(1,268 posts)It seems we can only hear stories like this here on DU. I can imagine a news-voice jumping in:
"Stay tuned to DU for the latest on the Sanders campaign 2016. " We'll have in depth interviews and analysis. So tune in to Bob and Mary tonight at 10"

I have not seen this discussed:
If Hilary has the problem of Bill (i.e., surely our nation can find a leader not named Clinton or, even more importantly, Bush), Sanders has his own affliction; he is a Socialist.
Socialist (Democratic or otherwise) has long been used as an invective; preventing rational lines of discussion and unnecessarily limiting possible solutions. Given its historical baggage, it has been used specifically to marginalize, isolate and blockade progress.
What Bernie Sanders did on Wednesday night was to show that his views (and by extension Socialist views) belong at the table. They are realistic, achievable and aspirational! They are not militaristic, scary, or otherwise bad.

Here is where it is being discussed: http://crooksandliars.com/2015/10/winner-debate-doesnt-matter-heres-what
