(14,971 posts)I read through some of the comments and was struck by the people who said they were Republicans and Libertarians and were supporting him because he's a straight talker and not corrupt. People really respond to that.

(45,251 posts)They want a habitable, safe place to live and the ability to feed and clothe their families. They want air that won't make their elders or children sick. They want sufficient drinkable water. They want medical care. They want peace, not war, though they do want to feel as though they are safe from attacks.
After basic survival, it's probably good, affordable education for their kids. Maybe then, it's at least a few extras now and again for the kids and the family.
And, unless you are an heir or heiress or are being supported by one, the above usually takes a job that pays a decent wage, so you want that and a safe workplace.
After that, it's all gravy. However, polls show the majority Americans, and often the vast majority, favor liberal policies (as long as no one uses the word, LOL!

A lot of money, smoke and mirrors have gone into pretending that politicians don't knows the above. They do.
And, few of us like to be deceived.
So, it's no wonder that Bernie appeals to people across the board.

(14,255 posts)does love the AMAs. And talk about "meeting with the people" - a lot of Redditors, as far as I can tell, are young people who don't go to town halls and don't watch television. And my grandson loves what he feels is a more personal touch, sometimes one of his questions get answered. The thing about an AMA - it is clear right from the start if the AMA is from the heart, and not just a canned bunch of responses or just vague cheery crap. The people asking questions really do want the answers, and the questions feed off of each other after a while.
I got sidetracked there, looking at the comments on Bernie's proposal to tax fast trades. What is cool is that you can click on a user and see all of their comments ever. Some think this is a great idea for several reasons, some believe this will "ravage" their 401ks and IRAs.

(9,126 posts)There is so much excitement. It's funny since our resident HRC supporters are trying to convince everyone that no young people like that grumpy old grandpa. And here he is, tearing it up on reddit, connecting directly with people, and taking any question that comes his way. That's how you do it. He's gonna win the youth vote this way by a mile.

(14,971 posts)demographic. They're very disillusioned by our political system.

(9,126 posts)He is by every metric more popular on social media and reddit-BY FAR. Some poster with an agenda can make shit up, but that doesn't make it so. Bernie is new and fresh and that is getting people interested.
