MoveOn's response to petition to back Bernie Sanders:

________
We received the following statement from Anna Galland, Executive Director, Move On in response to the petition "Move On should back Bernie Sanders" (http://pac.petitions.moveon.org/sign/move-on-should-back-bernie), which you signed. We thought you'd like to see it.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear MoveOn member,

Thanks so much for signing the petition asking for MoveOn to support Senator Sanders in his run for presidency. I wanted to get back to you with a response!

There’s no question that Senator Sanders is amazing. He’s a true progressive champ and MoveOn members across the country deeply appreciate his leadership. When he announced his candidacy, we issued an organizational statement welcoming him into the race and thanking him for his leadership on so many issues our members care about.

We're a member-led organization, listening to the breadth of our 8 million members. We are focused on encouraging Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president to give primary voters more options--and at this stage of the Democratic primary, we're not endorsing any candidate.

I still encourage you to keep up your organizing, and stay involved as the presidential race takes shape. Ilya or I will be in touch over the next few months about how we can work together to make sure whoever is elected president supports our shared progressive values.

Your passion and organizing know-how are the power behind MoveOn--and I'm grateful to work alongside you to improve our democracy.

Thanks for all you do.

Anna Galland
Executive Director, MoveOn.org Civic Action

but still encouraging EW to run.

This sounds like an HRC response.

She says MoveOn is 8 million strong, but wasn't the EW petition signed by around 400,000 members? Does that mean 7.5 million are HRC supporters?

the primaries were over. I thought they had no business endorsing anyone. They were serving their members far better by advocating for issues and endorsing the Democratic candidate after the primary voting had ended.

I still feel that way.

I left when they jumped in before the primaries were over to endorse Obama. Now, they are close to doing the same thing by continually pushing Warren. I feel they should remain impartial until the primary process is over and then support the candidate chosen by the voters.

When I read the MoveOn response to the petition in the op, I kept waiting for a "but" in the second paragraph when discussing Bernie's merits: "There’s no question that Senator Sanders is amazing (but)..." "He’s a true progressive champ (but)..." The whole statement seemed a bit off to me.

We need more of your money before we decide which candidate will promise us the most candy. Please give generously.

election. After leading everyone along for so long, they asked members what was most important for them as an issue. Overwhelmingly they were told to continue to fight to investigate that election.

There was silence from them for about 3 months and when they came back it was as if nothing had ever happened.

They sold out long ago, if they were ever independent of the Status Quo in the first place.

When word comes down from on high, the Party, they do what they are told.

I also remember the cave re the Betrayus ad after Rahm read them the riot act. Instead of telling him to get lost, they caved again. Turns out he reall WAS Betrayus.

They are on the inside.

We'll wait to see if they do endorse anyone.

As for their membership, I doubt that number .They are probably still counting all those of us who left long ago.

Hi,

I'm working with a team of supporters to get MoveOn to call a membership vote to endorse before the Iowa Primary.

Are you part of the team that put together the original petition?

13. New MoveOn Petition

Dec 2015

Hi Guys,

A new petition is currently running asking MoveOn to call a membership vote to endorse a candidate before the Iowa Primary. On the Run Warren Run website MoveOn state:

“We'll consider potential endorsements later on in the cycle if it appears MoveOn members might coalesce around a particular candidate. As in any election, if we do ultimately endorse a candidate, that endorsement would follow a MoveOn member vote.”

The petition will demonstrate there are enough people wanting to "coalesce" around a candidate for them to call a vote.
Please help! Sign the petition and encourage everyone you know to sign it too!
