Tuesday's big Bernie Sanders presidential campaign event will be equal parts homecoming and political spectacle.
The independent senator has pulled together plenty of Burlington symbolism: Sanders expects to stand on public land he fought for in the 1980s as he announces his presidential ambitions while spectators munch Ben & Jerry's ice cream at the free, non-ticketed event in Waterfront Park.
Burlington-based band Mango Jam will play in the park. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, of ice-cream fame, and Bill McKibben, the Vermont environmentalist and author, are expected to speak.
Plans for the event came together less than week before the big day, as Sanders campaign staffers unpacked a national campaign headquarters on Church Street. Volunteers on Friday had begun to call New Hampshire residents. The workers were surrounded by cardboard boxes and "Join the political revolution today" T-shirts.

(41,113 posts)festivities! We know that Ed Schultz of MSNBC will be at the opening and so it will be part of his 5 PM ET "The Ed Show" Tuesday.
Do you know about other Media outlets that might be there, or how to contact them for people here who are inquiring about any LIVE STREAM of the event since they don't get cable MSNBC? (I'm not much good for live stream and social media sources).
I wondered about Amy Goodman who often goes out in the field for her "Democracy Now!" program which airs several times daily including 5 PM, but this event was announced fairly recently. Just some thoughts and perhaps we'll hear more over the weekend about any more coverage especially from local news there.
This morning I posted another article by the Burlington Free Press reporter April Burbank about the Kickoff from yesterday under "Politics 2015". Should this update GUIDE article be cross posted there too? I will redo and post if you are unable. Thanks, Appa.

(62,325 posts)is way, way more Socially Liberal than it has been in a very long time.
Bernie's appearance on the political landscape right now seems to the right time to take advantage of the fact that after decades of neo-liberal policies, voters are turning away from what they now see as the destruction of the working class.

(6,145 posts)I'll have to have some Ben and Jerry's and send another ridiculously small donation instead.
I hope all those ridiculously small donations from people who still give a rip add up to something.
