I obviously don't think OPs on actual Bernie events should be deleted, and I assume you don't either, even if they're not about issues per se. But in re simply postings attacking Hillary even if they then tack on a bit about Bernie I agree completely.

And, although many of them are dead, they are still being beaten over and over again.

11. We are seeing the right wing machine at work Robbins -

some Hillary supporters are bad, but most are not. Most are honestly supporting their candidate and think she has the best chance to beat the republicans. I served with several members of MIRT who are very strong supporters & I would defend their character any day of the week. But we also have efforts on DU to undermine any of our democratic candidates - and their posts will continue to chip away. One I dealt with yesterday kept referring to Bernie as being "84" - which was a real stretch because even if he were elected & served two terms he would be 83 when the next president took over. They'll continue to do this. It will be bad during primary season, and it will be worse when we get to the months leading up to the election. Brace yourself and hold on.

It is going to get worse before it gets better & anything you can do as host in this group will be very much appreciated. It is going to be very bad out in GD, but we can keep it focused in here. Do what you have to do!

We're discussing it. We will most likely be asking people to self delete. If they don't, we'll kock.

That's a could be. Not a for sure

Another is being self deleted and a third has gotten too large. We decided to just let juries decide.

But thanks for catching it.

12. reactivity empowers disruptors

If an inflammatory thread gets only 18 recs but 250+ replies, mostly outraged, who is the winner? Of course, that describes GD and not this group, but the bottom line is that fewer than 10% of DUers have managed to keep more than 90% in a reactive (and often horrified) mode, for years and years now. The challenge for this "safe haven" is to disempower those whose goal is to disrupt rather than foster reasoned discussion. Hopefully even GD might improve if this group sets a tone that inspires its members to rise above the relentless baiting that will only increase for many months to come.

It might feel like a victory to win battles with trolls, but in the long term there is a war-- over the soul of the Democratic Party and simultaneously over the soul of DU. Letting divisive snarkmeisters determine what gets discussed (and in what tone) is basically handing them victory in that war.

My best wishes to the hosts of this group as you strive to create an oasis.

This is where we discuss Bernie, his issues, how we can support him and his supporters.
