As Clinton says only she can win, Sanders points to the polls

DES MOINES -- The new ad from Hillary Clinton warns Iowa's Democrats that only she can win a general election. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) begs to differ -- and so does his math.

"My opponent says this is an important issue; she is the person who can win the general election," Sanders said at an American Legion hall here, at an event that largely focused on the city's fast-growing Latino population. "I respectfully disagree. Look at which candidate is doing better against Donald Trump. Look at the last national poll and you find that Bernie Sanders is beating Donald Trump by 13 points, Hillary Clinton by seven points.”

Sanders has been making that argument at almost every Iowa stop this weekend, a head-turning addition to his extremely consistent stump speech. Frustrated by media coverage that has covered Donald Trump's insurgent campaign far more closely than Sanders's -- by one calculation, 23 times more closely -- the candidate and his supporters are starting to ask why his strong poll numbers aren't news.

Republicans have picked up on this, if not with the Democrats' best interests in mind. "Trump is smothering [the] attention Sanders should get," tweeted former Mitt Romney strategist Stuart Stevens last month. "He is historic. A socialist most liked candidate? Amazing."

Amazing is the fact that a wash po article is positive on Sanders.

Clinton is not drawing decent crowds in Iowa. She's also losing support in the polls while Bernie gains. I am not surprised that the latest NBC/WSJ poll shows Bernie down by only 3.

I have been pointing out her anemic rally attendance. There's video from ABC of a Clinton political event that has several rows in the back empty, with maybe 200 people there. Meanwhile, Bernie is attracting enthusiastic crowds of 2000.

I have been mocked by Clinton supporters and told that Hillary holds small events where she listens. I attended one of her events at the Des Moines Historical Society. A venue where she also held a 2008 rally. There were maybe 400 people there, with 75-100 of them being her field organizers that travel on a coach bus and attend all of her events. In 08, she garnered thousands at that same venue.

I think she's in real trouble here! Many, like in 2008, were originally voting for her because they assumed that she was "inevitable." That only works when you don't have a viable opponent, and Bernie has become that viable opponent. When Iowans attend his rallies and hear his messages, they like him and they are gravitating toward him.

I've also seen Hillary's ad in Iowa. OMG...she says she learned so much from her 08 campaign in Iowa. Scary fear-appeals with ominous music don't work in Iowa! They backfire. She's running an ad that looks Rovian. If you don't vote for me the scary Republicans will come and get you. Booga Booga! This is not going to work.

I am happy to report what I see and hear on the ground.

I think it's important, because there's so much spin and disinformation coming from the other direction.

When they insisted that Hillary's rallies were smaller because she was "listening" to Iowans, I thought I'd check it out for myself. She spoke for 38 minutes, took no questions and was out of there. Our Iowa media reported that she did the same thing earlier in the day in Davenport and Cedar Rapids.

It really is crazy the disinformation that is put out there. It's easily debunked by one person being there and simply observing!

if she gets the nomination republicans will have the white house and both branches of congress........she knows this but her enormous ego and sense of entitlement will not allow her to do the right the thing and suspend her campaign.
