O’Malley urges supporters to join protest over debates in front of DNC headquarters.

Democratic presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley, who has been among the most vocal critics of his party’s debate schedule, is urging supporters to join a rally next week in front of the headquarters of the Democratic National Committee in Washington.

“A group called ‘Allow Debate’ has scheduled a protest outside the DNC headquarters, and we want to help them out,” O’Malley’s digital director, Madeleine Ellis, said in an e-mail to supporters Wednesday, in which she shares the DNC’s address and says “afterwards you can join us to watch the next Republican debate at a bar nearby.” . .

O’Malley used much of his address to a DNC gathering two weeks ago in Minneapolis to blast the process as “rigged,” suggesting the party’s leadership is trying to limit the exposure of front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton. He has since made the cry for more debates part of his stump speech as he travels around the country.

The Sept. 16 late afternoon rally organized by #AllowDebate has been scheduled to coincide with the second Republican presidential debate. Organizers are hoping to become part of the television coverage of the GOP event.

The e-mail sent out by the O’Malley campaign on Wednesday cites a growing number of Democrats, including many in Iowa and New Hampshire, who’ve joined the call for more debates. DNC officials have said the current schedule allows ample opportunity for voters to size up the candidates.
