Navy, Guam, reviewing land license for new hospital in Mangilao

The Navy gave the government of Guam a proposed license to use military land in Mangilao for a new public hospital, according to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero, who said the agreement is under review and could be complete by the end of the month.

A license will allow work to start on the property, according to the governor.

“The next step would be a lease,” she said Wednesday morning on K-57 radio.

The 100-acre property, near Eagles Field in Mangilao, is ancestral land that was condemned by the military from its original owners in 1950. The military built an antenna on part of the site, but it is now gone and the land has been vacant for years.

According to the governor’s office, a lease from the military is the quickest way to get land for the hospital project, as opposed to a land return.
