TALLAHASSEE In an early show of force, more than a third of Floridas Democratic state legislators endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden in his bid for president.
The endorsements, from 23 of the Legislatures 64 Democrats, were gathered over the past month by state Rep. Joseph Geller, a Broward County Democrat and longtime Biden supporter. Geller said Biden has the best shot at bridging a growing divide between progressive Democrats and those representing the partys more moderate, traditional wing.
Its a diverse list of supporters that without question shows his support here, Geller told POLITICO. Not only do I think he can win, but I think he can unite the factions of the Democratic Party.
Geller began collecting endorsements in early April, weeks before Biden officially announced his candidacy on April 25, according to endorsement sheets reviewed by POLITICO. The state-level lawmakers join former Florida U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, who is also backing Biden's presidential bid.

(146,262 posts)Assuming that Bernie doesn't drop out before the Florida primary. March 17, I believe that is. I'll be voting for Joe Biden in Minnesota on March 3. We all get to vote for our favorite candidate. Isn't that wonderful?

(6,226 posts)Biden/Harris would be an excellent ticket. We have not had a woman VP. Harris would then be positioned to become President. A strong progressive Dem woman would make everyone happy.

(146,262 posts)Actual elected officials want someone who will pull Democrats together, not divide them. So, they're likely to see Joe Biden as as someone who can do that AND win in the General Election.
They're used to looking at polling numbers and understand the power of the majority. They also understand that it's difficult for anyone who is proposing radical changes to get a majority behind them.
So, I think you're right.
