(6,007 posts)They said we weren't ready for a Black President. . . and yet. . . . Obama.
It's about their message and the enthusiasm they generate. The other things are just something to give the talkers something to talk about.

Right up there with my other favorite, which is:
"How will we pay for a green new deal?"
"How did we pay for WWII? It came upon is and we did what we had to do!"

(5,954 posts)We've already elected a black President with a Muslim name, and we've already elected a woman (but for that slave-trade era monstrosity known as the Electoral College). So, we've already gotten past that bump.
The issue was never "are DEMOCRATIC voters ready for a (-fill in the blank-) President?" And the answer to that question is YES. The issue was always "are REPUBLICAN voters ready for a (-fill in the blank-) President?" and the answer is, and has always been NO!
Therefore, why even WORRY about what they're ready for?
The country elected a Black president who was everything they ever claimed was required (smart, moral, eloquent, etc.) and they HATED HIM, and obstructed him at every turn. Then they elected a serial adulterating CROOK, and they SUPPORT him at every turn.
This proves only one thing: They're voting preference has NOTHING to do with policy positions, character, or ideals. They vote PURELY ON TRIBALISM. And we've spent far too much time worrying about what REPUBLICAN voters are "ready for," and FOR NOTHING! The Trump Presidency has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Republicans CAN'T BE REACHED, so stop trying to please them.
The solution: STOP WORRYING ABOUT WHAT REPUPLICAN VOTERS ARE 'READY FOR.' Stop worry about trying to win over all TEN of the 'moderate Republicans' left in the Country. They're not going to swing the elections. That's not the problem. The problem is getting all the Democratic Party supporters to ACTUALLY VOTE! Especially during mid-terms. Try do do things to convince the 40% of the population that doesn't vote, because they think there's no difference between the Parties that there IS a difference.
I think that might be less of a problem next time. A lot of Democrats stayed home on election day because they didn't like Clinton. LESSON LEARNED! NEVER AGAIN! Yes, THERE IS a difference between the two Parties, and if you don't realize that, THIS is what HAPPENS!

(32,610 posts)It's not a question of "What are people ready for?" and never has been.
The Repukes have shown us what low standards they are willing to accept, and what they are willing to give up in order to go that low. Now that we know the worst about our fellow Americans, we have to show the Repukes what a democracy really is and how it works. We are the majority and we've demonstrated the best leadership and guardianship time and again. They can pound salt for all I care.
