by the way Bernie was a grown man when he wrote that nonsense.

(3,259 posts)It's the "Old Tapes." Not the old writings. Not all of the old tapes. Please watch the video in the op again as the real Bernie Sanders has been found.
Interesting that they come from a right wing source.

(67,782 posts)In 1991, Uygur wrote an article in The Daily Pennsylvanian in which he promoted Armenian Genocide denial.[17] He reiterated his position in a letter to the editor of Salon in 1999.[18] In a blog post in April 2016, he rescinded the statements. He went on to claim that he does not know enough today to comment on it.[19] As of 2017, his full acceptance of the term "genocide" has been indicated on the main TYT program: on September 6, he referred to the Armenian Genocide[20] while discussing the Rohingya genocide in Myanmar, and on November 29, while discussing the in-court suicide of war criminal Slobodan Praljak, he referred to the Armenian genocide twice.[21]
Uygur slowly transitioned away from the Republican Party and has said that the decision to invade Iraq was a "seminal moment" in that transition.[3] He is now a progressive.[22][23] On national security and civil liberties issues, Uygur has strongly opposed the practices begun under the Bush administration of indefinite detention, warrantless wiretapping and extraordinary rendition, and believes that waterboarding is an illegal torture technique. Uygur has been a strong critic of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the right-wing Israeli government, has stated that he advocates a two-state solution in the West Bank, and has repeatedly criticized the Israeli government for its failure to materialize.[24] He has also repeatedly criticized former Canadian Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper.[25]
Uygur supported Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders for president in the 2016 election. Just before the general election, Uygur stated his intention to vote for the Democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton.
He only conveniently became a "Democrat" in the last few years.

(68,543 posts)the ones old enough to vote...and we all voted for him together in the Ohio Primary. At the time I like both candidates...Hillary more but I knew she would win Ohio and the kid were excited. In the general we all voted for Hillary. I can not get over the general...I just don't feel enough was done to help her by Sen. Sanders. I could never vote for him in a primary because of the 16 general and because I have never believed he can defeat Trump in 2020.

His support in the general election campaign was minimal. The Convention ended on July 28, he made his first campaign appearance on September 5 - almost six weeks later. Contrast that with Clinton who joined Obama on the campaign trail only two days or so after the close of the convention.

(24,122 posts)who are among America's 325 million people, that's for damn sure!! Hillary was 100% right about referring to half of trRump supporters, who are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it - tens of millions of them!! - as "deplorables" and Bernie won't be President of those deplorable people. Nor will President Sanders be reaching across the aisle to compromise with the deplorables' representatives or otherwise giving in to the demands of the deplorables. Similarly, President Sanders won't be saying he likes the most deplorable of the deplorables' idols and listening to their deplorable advice.
And THAT, among many other things, is what makes Bernie a superstar!!

(67,782 posts)...the United States. That's why we're in the mess we are in - we have a president who thinks he represents only his and his allies' interests.
The thought that some of Sanders' supporters feel that the president shouldn't represent all of the United States is troubling. But it's all moot, there never will be a "President Sanders".

(42,862 posts)I didn't click the link either. Cenk Uygur is a conservative funded buy Republicans so that he can attack Democrats from the "far left". I'm surprised that anyone is buying what he's selling. There's an axiom for that, but it's probably best that I not get too specific on that for obvious reasons.

(4,494 posts)As I've said many times here, I was a fan of Sanders in Congress long before he became well known; he was the curmudgeon in the back row, bucking the system. I've said that 2016 convinced me he was no longer the person I perceived him to be.
But this was news to me, and the facts make it pretty clear that he was essentially a deadbeat dad. That shows me that he never was the person I perceived him to be.

(4,035 posts)That Senator Sanders, a college-educated white man in Vermont, didn't bother getting a steady job so that his child had a secure childhood is more consequential. Quite clearly, his political ambitions were more important. After all, he didn't get a permanent job until he was elected mayor of Burlington when he was in his forties. (At least that got him voting in elections at last.) A woman doing the same? Goodness gracious, the flak she would get wouldn't be pretty.

(58,785 posts)If his being a temporary Democrat bothers you, maybe you should find a permanent Democrat to back. Otherwise, maybe just accept it? After all, he is what he is and hes been it for a very long time. No matter how he switches his party membership around or what he gains from it, HE isnt going to change.
