Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBiden Soars, Everyone Else Stalls
The former vice president is capturing 40 percent of the national Democratic primary vote, stretching his lead over second-place Bernie Sanders to 21 points, according to Morning Consult's weekly tracking survey.
But the numbers in the earliest nominating states are even better news for Biden, who officially announced his campaign less than two weeks ago. Firehouse Strategies, a Republican strategy firm, found Biden holding double-digit leadsover his most high-profile rivals in the caucus state of Iowa and the primary states of New Hampshire and South Carolina.
Biden got even more good news from a pollster in Arizona on Tuesday that bolsters his most persuasive argument of electability. According to the Phoenix-based OH Predictive Insights, Biden is ahead of President Donald Trump in a hypothetical general election match-up in the Grand Canyon State.
Biden leads Trump 49 percent to 44 percent and was the only one of the six Democrats tested who came out on top of the president in traditionally red Arizona. The last Republican presidential nominee to lose Arizona in a general election was Bob Dole in 1996, when President Bill Clinton carried the state during his re-election.

My main goal is to kick trump out of our WH like so many Peeps.. so ever since I chose Biden in solidarity I've been surprised and delighted to see how his national support has grown since his brilliant announcement vid 2 weeks ago(that went fast!)

(526 posts)Why do we go through these mental exercises when you need to wake up and realize it's the media that makes you decide. Right now the media owners, the one percent, want Biden because he is one of them... As long as they keep mentioning his name and airing how he's leading(?) and if you don't believe that look at the current "president". He was made through Russian interference but most importantly thousands of hours of media manipulation.
primary today, I would vote for: Undecided

(3,256 posts)before he announced.
The way he announced convinced many of his bona fides in taking on Trump forcefully.
People inherently and viscerally trust Biden and the media didn't make them do that.

The most reliable voters African American women have little affection for Sanders, nor have they automatically gravitated to African American candidates to the left of Biden. They know Biden, they like him and so far they are content to reward him with their support after his eight years of service in the Obama administration.
The lack of appeal among African American candidates is now a significant problem for Sanders and for other progressives such as Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg. (The latest Quinnipiac poll found, Biden had the support of 42 percent of nonwhite respondents, more than 30 points ahead of his nearest rival, Warren. Sanders, who struggled with nonwhite voters during his 2016 campaign, had only 7 percent support.)
In short, in going far to the left, Sanders and other candidates misfired not only with older, more moderate whites but also with the critical African American electorate. The media likewise has overestimated the influence of the far left and failed to appreciate the centrist bent of both white and African American voters.
