Democratic Primaries

DETROIT Senator Kamala Harris of California structures her stump speech around two themes truth and justice meant to evoke her career as a barrier-breaking prosecutor and cultivate a reputation as a fearless public advocate.
But when Ms. Harris swept into Detroit to address an N.A.A.C.P. banquet on Sunday night, she added something new. After her signature windup of lets speak truth, she replaced her usual recitation of Democratic policies with an attack on President Trump, accusing him of enabling bigotry and divisiveness and refusing to call neo-Nazi violence what it is: domestic terrorism.
This president isnt trying to make America great, she said, hes trying to make America hate.
With that, Ms. Harris was nodding to a political truth: She is attempting to reset her campaign after stagnating in Democratic primary polls, using her strengths as a prosecutor which were on display during a recent face-off with Attorney General William Barr to mount a sharp indictment of Mr. Trump.'>>>

(16,783 posts)When Joe Biden came right out of the gate blasting Trump, it was a brilliant move on his part. He is talking issues in a down to earth manner with people as he travels to places Democrats did not that went for Trump in 2016.
Kamala Harris can do that too, blasting Trump and talking issues. For Trump is the issue and what he is doing to this country.

(146,286 posts)Very early in this pre-primary season, I suggested that the best approach a candidate could take would be to go after Trump hard from the very beginning. Until Joe Biden entered the race, none of the candidates made that their first order of business. Then Joe did exactly that in his launch speech. He then jumped immediately to the top of the polling.
Trump is the key to this primary race. He is the opponent, not issues nor the individual candidates. That will be the issue in the general election campaign, too.
So, Kamala Harris is a little late in doing this, but it's the right move.

(2,208 posts)She's well positioned in the top tier of candidates and I am sure she is going to absolutely knock it out of the park during the debates.
First debate is still almost 2 months off on June 27th.
Should be exciting!

(10,828 posts)Smart move. I'd like to see more of our candidates do the very same thing: press their main policy prescriptions while going after Trump as the most corrupt and compromised individual ever to sit in the WH, a clear and present danger to the health of the country.
All these candidates can walk and chew gum at the same time. Trump is the target who must be kicked to the curb if we're to fix and restore anything.
