I'm so glad that there are people in our lineup who seem like really good, decent people.
To be honest, with so much going on in the news and the Washington Post doing such a good job of reporting it, I wouldn't necessarily suggest using one of your free articles on it if you don't subscribe. It's mainly about two nice good kids. But I especially loved this little snippet:
... I moved back to New York, where I fell in love again, went to graduate school, taught French, wrote a novel. Then I got married and moved to Los Angeles. When Beto came through town, we all went out for drinks. He was recently married, too. Shes wonderful, he said, when I asked what she was like. So beautiful, and such a pure, good soul.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have people in the White House again whom we could like?

(58,785 posts)But genuinely respect and admire are top of the list for me, and good character is essential for that.
Inspiring would be nice, but a distant second to proven competence. Charm not really necessary.
After all, we've never made liking a qualification for any of our physicians, except for PCPs maybe. In fact, this makes me think of a couple who irritate me just remembering them, but liking's irrelevant when you're under anesthesia or really need a correct diagnosis, and both lived up to their excellent reputations.
