(6,226 posts)The country is not far left. It's Center left. That is what the polls are showing us. I would love to see a Biden/Harris ticket. She would be the first woman VP and aligned to be President too.

(2,531 posts)<< One-third of voters say that finding a candidate who will carry on former President Barack Obamas legacy is very important to them and there is little difference in levels of candidate support by the importance voters place on Obamas legacy. On the other hand, two-thirds of primary voters point to finding a nominee who can beat President Donald Trump as more important to them than agreement on the issues.>>

(146,262 posts)She's not getting the traction she might, though. She's come up a little in the polling, but not enough. She's one of my Senators, and I like her a lot. I don't see her as someone who could win next November, though.
Some would categorize a little more to the center than center left, though.

Edwards was usually third although a couple of polls had Gore third.

(2,689 posts)It is going to be interesting to see how Biden negotiates the rough waters stirred up by the sick-minded right wing in the coming months. (And by "right wing" I mean Trump, the entire GOP, and all the little peons who insist on voting against their own best interests.) They're already attacking Biden's son -- you know, because Ukraine collusion. But they're going to get some woman or women to come forward with lying allegations against Joe concerning sexual assault, sexual groping, sexual-something. All of it will be proven to be lies but the media will gobble it up, anyway.
And Harris! Harris is of Jamaican descent so, therefore, ipso facto, she must be a heavy user of marijuana. Media will find dozens, maybe thousands!, of people who personally smoked with her while she gyrated to reggae music which you can see and hear, in this smokey, poorly lit video.
I do believe -- steeped though I am in cynicism -- that the American people will see through the garbage the Republican Party might throw at a Biden/Harris ticket. But it will be ugly and nasty enough to put a real strain on 2 excellent people.
(I do like Mayor Pete, but it really looks like it will be Biden/Harris for the win.)
(But, as so many here have said before, I will vote for any Democrat who wins the nomination. For some, I may have to hold my nose, but I'm voting straight Democratic until we flush all the crap out of Washington -- and by crap, yes, I mean Republicans, all of them, each and every one of them.)

(2,689 posts)but still stirs up crap about Democratic candidates for the sake of scoring "scoop" points is a fool. Period.
If a reporter knows and has proof of criminal behavior of a candidate, sure, let us know so we don't give that person the nomination. But hazy and dubious allegations should be tossed in the waste basket for now.
We are at war with a neo-fascist movement and have to defeat said movement or be consumed by it.

All the folks who didn't like Hillary last time have another place to go this time besides just Bernie.
Bernie's vote in 2016 was always two parts, folks who wanted a far left candidate, and folks who really didn't want Hillary as the nominee.
The former group I suspect hasn't gone anywhere...the latter group has a half dozen other candidates to choose from and I suspect he's lost a good chunk of them to the size of the field.

(10,824 posts)electability factor (unpopular as it may be) is strongly tilted in Joe's direction. I think we need to give our electorate credit: they too know that dumping Trump and his cohorts is the prime motivator for 2020 because the critical issues--healthcare, climate change and the environment--all depend on a 2020 victory.
Interesting, too: second choices, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.

(6,042 posts)in Monmouth Poll 9 months before Feb 2020 primary
New Hampshire pop: 1,316,000. 93% White; 2% Hispanic/Latinx; 2% Asian; 1% Black 1%
from Monmouth Poll:
Biden voters 53% are 65+ ; Sanders + other candidates get the under 50 voters
Biden does especially well among voters aged 65 and older, garnering 53% support with this group compared to only 9% for Sanders. The former vice president also bests Sanders by 36% to 19% among those aged 50 to 64, but he trails the Vermont senator by 20% to 27% among voters under the age of 50. Biden tops Sanders by 45% to 10% among self-described moderates and conservatives, but he lags by 23% to 29% among liberals. A majority of likely Democratic primary voters (58%) describe themselves as moderates or conservatives in New Hampshire, a state that allows unaffiliated voters to participate in either partys primary.
