Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIMO, a good ticket would be Warren/Gillum or Harris/Biden or Booker/Buttigieg or O'Rourke/Klobuchar
1) Warren/Gillum:
Elizabeth Warren, IMO, would make the best president of any of our candidates, although I think some folks wonder if she could win in a general election. I think she could win as long as she chooses the right VP running mate. Warren's ideas have been going over well at the town halls so far, but I think her biggest asset is that she is the one candidate who could solidify the Democratic Party better than anyone because Bernie's supporters would more than likely flock to her, should she win the nomination.
Andrew Gillum? I love that guy, and I think he'd make a fantastic running mate for Warren, plus he knows how to stand up to Trump and Pence. If not Warren, I hope someone considers Gillum for VP. If he was in the Primary contest, I think he'd be one of my top two choices for the nomination.
2) Harris/Biden:
Kamala Harris seems to have a lot going for her even though she's relatively new face in Washington. I think the fact that she is reaching out to such a wide array of voters would bode well for her in a general election. Plus she has the look, she's got the right delivery and such an awesome speaking voice. She's even got it down to the right facial expressions. She overflows with confidence, and she'd make an excellent campaigner for sure. And a heck of a president of course.
Joe Biden has already proven to be a great vice president under Barack Obama, and I don't think anyone would doubt that he'd make just as fine a VP for Kamala Harris as well. The question is, if Harris wins the nomination and asks Joe to run with her, would he accept?
3) Booker/Buttigieg:
I think Cory Booker is currently the most underrated of all the candidates, but I think by the time the debates are over, he'll be impressing the heck out of everyone. He's got the personality to be a great campaigner, which will go a long ways toward defeating Trump. Plus, he's been a longtime critic of the War on Drugs, and he is pushing hard to legalize weed for all the right reasons.
I think Buttigieg is one of our most intelligent candidates ever, almost as smart as Obama, and I think he'd make the perfect VP running mate for someone like Booker. Mayor Pete has the type of warm personality that makes him instantly likeable. Plus, he's well respected as a war vet, and he's got experience running a government, albeit for a city that isn't the biggest. I'd love to see Mayor Pete kick Pence's ass in a 2020 debate.
4) O'Rourke/Klobuchar:
Beto O'Rourke has already proven to be one hell of a campaigner. He could be a significant factor in the South. Add to that his charisma, and a ticket with him heading it just might be a winner. He seems to be very popular in most areas across the country. Nobody is as cool as Obama, but if anyone comes halfway close to being as cool as Barack, it might be O'Rourke.
Amy Klobuchar has good ideas for future programs and she has sensible ways to pay for them. She can be tough when necessary, and she panders to no one. I think she'd make a great running mate on a ticket with O'Rourke, but I could easily see a combination of Klobuchar/O'Rourke as well.
Anyway, those are 4 possible combinations that I think could be winners in 2020. How about you? What do you think would be 3 or 4 good combinations for a Democratic ticket in 2020?

(6,709 posts)(I do not subscribe to the notion that "only" one could pull it off) but that combo checks my boxes: disliked/feared by Wall St and full bore on addressing climate change, which I consider THE issue. Fortunately addressing it will require addressing a lot of things along the way.
I put Warren at the top because she has greater recognition and it seems, whatever the issue, the Senator Professor has an app (plan) for that. Also too I am more than ready for a woman president. I like Inslee for his climate initiatives and focus, executive experience and geographic variety. I do see that an all-white ticket might be a weakness.
But I also think the assembled candidates are shaping up to be a formidable roster for cabinet positions--those who can be spared from their current positions.
We have an incredible wealth of talent imo.

(36,012 posts)The Trump syndicate better look out if Warren becomes the AG.
She and the NY AG will keep in close touch over all that.

(9,696 posts)Bidens not going to be VP again, and there are to many new faces with great messages to choose from.
Much as I like Gillum, he has some baggage that would be especially harmful to Warrens brand. So I'd say Warren/Inslee as well, although she might work well with Yang.
I really like Inslee for anyones VP choice. He would make mincemeat out of pense in a debate.
Booker/Buttigieg and O'Rourek/Klobichar are both good pairings as well.

(30,674 posts)my opinion that he would say thanks no thanks if the nominee tries to draft him. Been there done that. I can see him sacrificing 8 years of his life to be president, not so much for vice. I suppose if the nominee needs an established quantity for the sake of authority, umm.
He should be t the top for that, tho.
