'A dream ticket': Black lawmakers pitch Biden-Harris to beat Trump

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/05/12/joe-biden-kamala-harris-dream-ticket-1317561

The Congressional Black Caucus may have found an answer to its Joe Biden dilemma: Vice President Kamala Harris.

Some black lawmakers are agonizing over whether to back Biden or two members of the close-knit caucus — Sens. Harris and Cory Booker — who are also vying for the White House, according to interviews with a dozen CBC members.

But with the former vice president jumping out to a huge, if early, lead in the polls, several CBC members are warming to the idea of a Biden-Harris ticket to take on President Donald Trump.

“That would be a dream ticket for me, a dream ticket!” said Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.). “If she is not the nominee, that would be a dream ticket for this country.”

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

1. They're not alone in thinking that's a great, winning ticket.

The two of them would cover all the demographic and political bases, I think.

6. I like Harris.

I wish there were a different experienced candidate who would be the Pres. nominee, though.

I have been leaning away from Biden lately. I didn't like Harris at first, but my eyes started turning toward her and Mayor Pete, and to some extent Warren, as they have shown themselves to be noticeable (in different ways).

I'll see what happens at the debates.

I was hoping for a Governor to take center stage, but altho we have a governor (or two?), they don't seem to capture national attention.

13. :) My thought. This dream ticket has been raised since

the beginning, and I've wondered what effect it has on her campaign. She is running for president, not VP, after all. Seems rather disrespectful. She's an ex- CA attorney general and sitting U.S. senator, not female assistant to either.

That said, I fully understand the appeal.

14. I tend to agree, Presidential candidates are too invested in their own runs to play 2nd fiddle

and winning candidates don't usually pick strong personalities that could overshadow their own aspirations and share the stage in their run for president

They pick VPs that will agree with what they want and do what they're told to pump up the Presidential candidate, a sidekick

complement him nicely in some ways, though. She can seem too strong and tough for a woman, but I could imagine it playing off nicely alongside his warm fuzzies. And all but the most delusional misogynists should have trouble imagining her wringing her hands helplessly if he became ill.

You can get the Obama bump from Booker, who doesn't bring the baggage of Harris. The midwest once again will be key, and that's where Brown could deliver.

36. Boy, is all that true. And I imagine candidates are

quite protective of not doing anything that might weaken their prerogatives or lock them in early.

The Republicans are really different. Romney's dilemma when the Kochs pushed Ryan on him was a hoot; and Ryan's when Romney sent him off to campaign Siberia.

Or Trump's when he was trapped haplessly with another Koch-approved replacement. If there is a god, creepily disciplined Pence will have spent years of his life in Nancy Reagan-ish posturing waiting to become president, only to end up with his political career in ruins. And wondering why his lord forsook him.

If she wins, I think Biden, Bernie and Liz are out. Harris likely picks a male Veep choice, likely a governor like Bullard or Hicjenlooper. She could also pick Mayor Pete, Castro or Beto if they really impress in the debates.

Harris or no Harris. Harris brings in about 3% additional black votes. But Harris could also cause some voters to stay home. Overall it's a wash.

Looks like Biden, for his appeal to the “working man,” and Harris (or Warren) as running mate , to give us women what we longed for, achieved legitimately, and had stolen from us in 2016.

We may have to get a foot in the door with a woman Vice President first, so the rest of the nation can ease into the idea. It would help our fellow voters get used to the idea of a realistic female running mate, even if it’s not the BIG prize. At least not yet.

Hey, personally, I’d rather have a woman as chief executive, flat-out, accept-no-substitutes, right NOW. We’re into Year Three of President Hillary Clinton, as far as I’m concerned, because I regard her as the rightful and legitimate winner in 2016, and she (and all the rest of us) have been robbed by the Orange Cheater and his Merry Band of Russians. But if we have to go through second-in-command first, in order to position ourselves for the topy prize, then so be it. And if that’s what it takes to get this poor morally faltering country more comfortable or at least neutral toward a woman Commander-in-Chief, then okay. Make it so. I’ll gladly take it. I just want us to get there. We’ve knocked down the barriers to an African-American President. Now we have to clear the hurdles in the way of a woman President. And those blocking a gay President. And eventually a Latino/Latina, a President from the indigenous community that was here before anybody else arrived, and other embodiments of our melting pot status.

Seems to me it might be a shrewd way to help America to get comfy with the idea of a woman on the ticket.
