I don't think Biden's GOP-will-get-sane statement is as naive as it sounds...

...he hasn't forgotten what happened in the Obama years, especially Merrick Garland. But he's trying to appeal to the sane conservatives and independents, the people in the center-right who are, at bottom, susceptible to facts and empirical reality. If Biden can slice off just a couple million of those people, his victory next November is assured.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

As much as we might want to eliminate the Republican Party sometimes (maybe most of the time) we aren't ever going to . I think Joe may be saying here (paraphrasing) that a best-case scenario might be for the Republican Party to become sane again. This way, government can function again. I almost always disagree with the Republicans but I'm 54 and for a good part of my life they were wrong but (in my opinion) acted more or less in good faith most of the time. That's obviously not the case lately, but there was a time...

There are some Republicans out there who can see what a monster Donald is. You never know when you might need some of them in order to get something important accomplished. Democrats need to be seen as the reasonable people. That's what the country needs. Going all scorched-earth on the GOP will not help at all.

Without the threats of Trump as President, comprehensive legislation becomes more possible. With just the votes of Sanders and three others over ten million oppressed people would be citizens today. I think with Biden’s leadership today we can get Sanders and a couple of others on board for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship. Nothing naive about it.

thing, but how many progressive votes would he lose, as, not bothering to show up at the polls, not being energized enough to make the effort to circumvent the many voting roadblocks fascist put up. we don't need a compromiser, we need a fighter to fight these evil fascists before they destroy everything.

While still offering a lot of what progressives want and being able to sell those policies to moderates. There is someone running who can do that but the media is working overtime spreading misinformation and discouraging people from even looking at or listening to him. Sadly, some of the garbage even gets posted here.

There is going to be a lot of Trump remorse after he is hauled to Sing Sing by the NY authorities.

There won't be any fig leaves to hide behind.

Republicans will have to work with Biden. Biden is not as nice as Obama either. He will start punching.
