(185 posts)There was another thread that showed photos of many presidents and presidential candidate's getting haircuts as part of their campaign throughout the decades. But Beto decides to include an interview with his barber to put a face on the immigration issue, and all of a sudden it is not presidential. It is telling that the quick joke Beto made is getting more coverage than the immigration issue

Apparently her husband posted a photo (edited after looking it up, I don't think it was a video, but a photo) of her cooking on Mother's Day and people (who probably just don't like her to begin with) supposedly got their knickers all in a twist. Beto live streams EVERYTHING on facebook, so his supporters know exactly what he does and says. The media is doing one hit piece after another on him and are NOT reporting accurately at all. Seeing that done to your chosen candidate day in and day out and then see that same misinformation and twisting spread on here is utterly infuriating.

(2,113 posts)A word of warning about the negative stories on Beto...I have yet to see one that was not either twisted or heavily misrepresented. He is a genuinely GOOD, honest, genuine and thoughtful person. He never has a negative word to say about any other candidate running and has even stood up for Mayor Pete when those homophobe hecklers went after him in Texas. Beto does NOT deserve the kind of treatment he is getting. If you want an accurate representation of what an article reports on...check his facebook because there is a 99% chance the real story is on video there.

my apologies at misreading the intention of your comment. Supporters of other candidates (two in particular) are constantly posting about this and many seem blatantly attacking, so I was thin-skinned when I shouldn't have been.
I have also seen the same attacks about how Pete should drop out and run for something in Indiana (to better clear the way for the attackers preferred candidate), so that is why I found it puzzling coming from a Pete supporter

(111,300 posts)It would be difficult to win a statewide race in 2020 against Sen. Cornyn who is held in higher esteem than Ted Cruz. The next statewide race is for governor in 2022 and Greg Abbott is popular among the GOP voters. He could run against Cruz again in 2024, but there isn't any indication that he would win if he waited that long. In short, the possibility of Beto winning a statewide race in Texas is near zero for at least five more years.
I think Beto made the best choice for his immediate political future. Even if he doesn't succeed in the primaries, I think that he would be an excellent running mate for most of the candidates and could put Texas into play for the general election.
I do wish that he was less hyperactive since it distracts from his message, but I think that he is as electable as any other candidate that has entered the race.

(111,300 posts)I realize that everyone is going to have their preferred candidates in the race and that there will also be criticisms about all of the candidates since it's the nature of political campaigns. I do wish that the media would focus on the candidates records, policies, and some of the details about how they handled adversity and success rather than the trivial stuff like ear hair.
I also don't believe that we should be dismissive of any of the candidates. Unfortunately, the article that was posted earlier today took a condescending and dismissive tone towards Beto. We've seen similar articles about all of the other candidates and I've filed nearly all of those articles in the trash bin. In the end, all of our candidates are better than Trump and I will vote for the Democratic nominee in November 2020.

If he doesn't win the nomination then he would also be a top contender for VP, so he is also viewed as a threat to those candidates as well.
I'm glad they are at least advertising his CNN Town Hall next week pretty aggressively. He especially shines when answering policy questions from voters, even the ones that are difficult. He did really well on Rachel Maddow, too. The HBO documentary on the 28th should help too.
