Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIs it just me, or is foreign policy not being discussed enough?
Joe Biden has credentials in foreign policy -- and experience -- far above any other candidate.
He would do more to restore U.S. standing in the world, and to restore our reputation, than any other candidate.
He has friends among our allies all over the world.
It seems to me that this isn't being discussed enough.
I love the progressive policies for changes in taxes and social programs, but right now we need to reverse the damage done to our country by Trump, because many of our allies no longer trust us to be a force for democracy.
What do you think?

(1,345 posts)in the primaries, discussion of Biden's foreign policy experience would center around the Iraq War.

(22,874 posts)The Iraq war is example 1 of why lying is so dangerous to our democracy... and we now have the liar in chief in the white house.. that will just remind people how lying puts us in danger.. because we cannot make the correct decisions on the national and international stage..

(642 posts)Biden has made mistakes in the past, such as voting for the Iraq War and the Anita Hill hearings.
But do you think we should hold that against him now? Or just look at his current ideas and policies and proposals?
Remember, until age 46, Elizabeth Warren was a Republican.

the Iraq War doesn't seem like the past to me. But it's not something that would rule anyone out. I supported Hillary in the 2008 primary.

(642 posts)I do think that Joe Biden would do more for us globally, but Elizabeth has better ideas for what needs to be done domestically.

(1,345 posts)I remembered that since his Iraq War vote he served as VP for eight years and I don't even remember his involvement in Obama's foreign policy!
I went to look up his involvement in Libya, which I think was the biggest mistake, and it turns out that he opposed it: https://www.politico.com/story/2016/06/joe-biden-libya-wrong-224595
So he could point to this, although it could be tricky because it could be perceived as criticizing Hillary which could piss some people off.

(42,862 posts)We obviously need a WELL ROUNDED candidate who's comfortable with domestic policy AND FOREIGN POLICY. We need someone who's got the temperament and demeanor to be the Leader of the Free World (without embarrassing our country).
Personally, I'm looking for someone who knows how to listen politely... someone who knows how to speak truthfully and forcefully and RESPECTFULLY (without relying on "getting in someones face" ... and without using intimidating/distracting excessive gesticulations. Use your words, not your arms.)
I mean, I guess it's okay to use gestures and gesticulations to emphasize an important point... but it's just too distracting to try and watch a candidate speak who gesticulates almost EVERY syllable he (or she) speaks.
In any case, I'm pretty much OVER these "one-note" candidates who just have a couple of pet-issues, and who have a couple of stump speeches, and who seemingly cannot adapt their backward-facing views and update their thinking to the reality of today's world. (And I'm talking about the ENTIRE world, not just "our little part" of the world.)

(36,445 posts)Sure he has flaws, but he's a known factor, among Americans & the rest of the world. I think right now, the world would like that. But I'm voting blue no matter who.

(642 posts)that's not the issue.
It's just that I think he is way out in front of the others on his "experience & established relationships with world leaders" and that to me is a REALLY big deal.
