Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumPathetic. Incredibly snide tweet from Joy Reid about Joe Biden & his supporters.
I thought she'd seemed biased against Joe, but this snide gratuitous comment in a Twitter dialogue with Chris Hayes about Democratic risk aversion re impeachment proves it.
She got some negative responses she deserved, too.

(34,434 posts)She is so close-minded about Pelosis strategy and unwilling to acknowledge the fact you just pointed out.
The reality also is that, while every Dem needs the support of the Dem base, the base she is describing still is a minority of voters in general and in many states, a minority of Dem primary voters. While candidates should not waste time trying to win over the delusional Trump true believers, they must energize white, Latinx, and Asian-American Dems and independents, in addition to African American voters.

She had a one hour daytime show for a brief period and I believe her inability to read in a conversational way is what ended that show.
Her two hour weekend show is successful, I believe, because it's practically all interview - which is what she's great at.

But lately she's been using her influence to push small-minded, even slightly hostile, propaganda-ish viewpoints. As you say, she's insulting and rejecting millions of good Democrats.
The best explanation for this turn away from reason and facts would be that it is her own choice. I'm remembering, though, that most MSNBC hosts and their guests are required to help elect Republicans and defeat Democrats. Only some of the evening folk, with very different audience expectations from daytime, are powerful enough to refuse. We are hot into a giant electoral battle for power, and Joy's is a weekend morning show.

I don't agree with her whole post, but I do believe that risk aversion is a real priority for some Democrats. Having been through the catastrophic results of 2016, I think that some Democrats want to make the safest choice that they can.

But he's still the leading candidate, and I think it's because people feel like they know him from his years of public service. They didn't need him to articulate what he wants to do.
That's what I mean by "safe." In my opinion, some Democrats trust Biden because he's Biden. He could wait more than a month to come out with his first policy because he has built-in credibility.

(34,195 posts)Back in December, after a series of homophobic posts on her defunct, decade-old blog resurfaced on social media, the MSNBC host Joy Reid apologized for them.
But this week, when Ms. Reid was confronted with a new batch of homophobic writings from that same period, she said she had been the victim of hackers.
That claim was called into question on Tuesday, when the Internet Archive, the meticulous online record-keeping nonprofit that hosted the archived version of her site, said it had found no evidence to support her claim.

If Biden wins the primary, OF COURSE I would support him, fully and with pleasure. But I do believe there are many who feel like only a white male can win against trump. I don't agree with that.

When she was having a go (fairly IMHO) at the Berners then she was fiercely defended and was painted as a victim of a hit job, her homophobic blog posts were the result of 'hacking' (LUDICROUS) or she was excused because she has 'evolved'.

(32,681 posts)She's right about how many democrats have flocked to him out of fear. Even my brother, a black millennial, pretty much said democrats look ridiculous with so many candidates and that we should go with Biden and not do any risky experiments next year. I asked him, What about Cory Booker? Kamala? Nope. No experiments, he insisted.
However, I think people like Biden for other reasons too. Does he connect with most of us on an intellectual level? Obviously not. But when it comes to connecting on an emotional level, he stands alone in the field. None of the other candidates has that skill. That is why Biden is such a formidable candidate and that's also why dump fears him.
I also think that Joy and others are getting distracted from the goal--which is to remove trump and return to some semblance of normalcy. Why are people so worked up over his strategy of shaming republicans? We know mcconnell and the rest are deplorable, but let the man campaign in the style he sees fit. Stop trying to micromanage what he says on the stump. That is super duper petty. As far as more substantial disagreements, we can sort out specific policies when the time comes. Biden has shown that he is flexible and willing to change course when necessary. Give him a break already!

(43,299 posts)Multiple internet archives had those posts real-time logged back years and years (some going back to 2007) before this came up. Some of those posts were from 12, 13 years ago, when she was a nobody. Not only that but dozens (hundreds?) of websites and archives (INCLUDING DU ITSELF) would have been had to been hacked back in 2006, 2007 and years and years afterwards, and meticulously replaced her posts (or made ones up out of whole cloth, AND exactly match each other one for years and years) with 'fake' ones, lolol.
She would have had to have been hacked real time, (going back to 2006.2007, etc) when almost no one outside of Florida knew her, back when she was a wee tiny small-time blogger. She was not on MSNBC then, she had a microscopic amount of influence then. All the archives verified they were NOT hacked. Also, IF the blog had been hacked back in 2006, 2007 and onward, then Reid (who RAN HER OWN BLOG) would have instantly noticed. The entries are sequential, she would have seen a 'hacked', 'fake' post as soon as she put up a new entry. It as not just ONE, it was many.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/claims-by-joy-reids-cybersecurity-expert-fall-apart
Reid demanded that Internet Archive completely remove ALL their entire archived pages of her blog. They said no (rightly so, as that is defeating the entire purpose of an archive), then Reid had an IT team put robots.txt blocking scripts up on HER servers, but that doesn't work on all archives (as you will see below). The whole story of 'hacking' is a joke, a bad one.
Here is the nail in the 'she was hacked' coffin of bullshit.
From DU itself.

I'm a fan of Joy Reid - also a fan of the truth...
And I want to get to the bottom of it - whether she's lying about these posts or she was hacked.
One thing I don't get is why one of the supposed hacked posts made its way to DU in 2007?

This post is very similar to one she claims is not true - which is linked from that post - about Tim Hardaway being a homophobe. In that article, she mentions men kissing and her disgust with it - which she also references in the Snickers ad post done about ten days before.

So, my question is: if she is claiming these were all hacks, and one is clearly not a hack, how does she reconcile that? How can we believe some of the comments are fake when others, which are fairly bigoted (outright, actually) about men kissing, are, in fact pretty clearly her's?
There's no way this was hacked ... the post was clearly linked to DU by Ian David back in 2007. If that's real, despite the fact she's claiming it's not, how can we trust the others aren't, either?
I hate this. I love Joy. I don't want this to be true...but evidence is there.
snapshot of the 2007 DU post DI was talking about above (the link is in his post above)

Bottom line:
Patently ridiculous to suggest she was hacked. Laughable in fact.
A person would need a time machine and a team of hundreds to literally change and/or insert dozens or hundreds of sites and hundreds (probably thousands?) of individual entries/pages REAL TIME and for years and years moving forward and they would still fail. It is almost impossible to find EVERY single page on the web (and dark web) where a blog entry (and it's multiple entries in this case) has been re-posted or crawled and archived. DU itself (as shown above) is but one of dozens of smoking guns showing Reid DID POST that rot.
BTW, just to be fair to Reid, also laughable are the attacks now heaped upon her now because because she gored someone's sacred ox, but so many were happy to exalt her when she was attacking a target they did not like.
