Beto O'Rourke will win my vote for this one sentence on capitalism and climate change

I'm a capitalist," O'Rourke replied. "I don't see how we're able to meet any of the fundamental challenges that we have as a country without, in part, harnessing the power of the market.

This is perfect and straight-forward. The most important issue of our time won't be confronted until individuals vote for clean energy with their pocketbooks - not their tax dollars.

Already, this "Green New Deal" is viewed as a Trojan Horse for new entitlement programs.

Climate change solutions must be market driven.

Subsidies for EVs.

A new grid so that a person can sell their excess solar power to others.

Tax credits for solar, and so on.

And we have about 12 year to do something serious about it or...

I somehow think "the market" could give a shit about that.

Emissions trading, or cap and trade, is a market-based approach to controlling pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants.

I don't think Cap and Trade is enough by itself though.

And when you are dealing with another party that denies the very existence of the problem, no compromise is possible.

I'm starting to have a problem with the terms, capitalist and socialist. Capitalist has come to mean libertarian and socialism now means everything else. Which I consider to be a trojan horse for eliminating entitlements until climate change destroys civilization.

Do I? Also no. But I do know that government action will be the answer, not the market. That's the same blind alley we've been blundering along and look where it has gotten us. Profit-making endeavors are incapable of dealing with this crisis.
